Three CD set celebrating an exciting, revolutionary time in British jazz when musical boundaries were stretched or ignored and new identities forged. With British jazz back in the news through genre stretching artists such as Ezra Collective and Shabaka Hutchings it's a perfect time to rediscover this influential period in British jazz history. Featuring celebrated jazz figures such as Dick Morrissey, Tubby Hayes, Don Rendell, Ian Carr, Joe Harriott and Graham Collier alongside bands such as Colosseum, Satisfaction and Keef Hartley Band that merged jazz and rock. This box set tells a story of British Jazz at a time of cultural change, a period of experimentation and transformation in music, from the swinging hard bop of The Dick Morrissey Quartet to the pioneering jazz rock fusion of Nucleus (featuring Ian Carr), If (who included Dick Morrissey) and Brian Auger's Oblivion Express.

Three CD anthology of the vibrant, wildly eclectic Michigan music scene in the late 60s / early 70s. Key Motor City tracks stretching from the Motown and Invictus labels to The Stooges, Alice Cooper, MC5 and many others. The most populous city in the state of Michigan, Detroit exuded a rock 'n' roll mentality like no other American town. Famously home to Tamla Motown, the Motor City also hosted a plethora of artless teen garage bands, blue-collar heartland rockers Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, proto- punks The Stooges and MC5, the P-Funk psychedelic soul crew and hard rock heavyweights like Alice Cooper, Grand Funk Railroad and Frijid Pink. Named after the John Lee Hooker/MC5 song that referenced the heavily-reported Detroit civil unrest of July 1967, 'Motor City Is Burning' is a four-hour, 3CD primer of the Michigan music scene during it's late 60s/early 70s heyday.

All the Colours of the World in the Black Forest ‘High quality music to be enjoyed by many people all around the world, no matter where they are’ Andreas Brunner-Schwer, MPS Records The German SABA and MPS family of labels extended this sentiment to include music from musicians all around the world, no matter where they were from - and here on Spiritual Jazz 17 SABA MPS we explore that very theme. Throughout the ‘60s & ‘70s both labels released a wealth of music from a wealth of international jazz musicians coming from both North and South America, Europe, the Caribbean and the Far East. The aim was to release jazz that was exciting, innovative and interesting, regardless of style: there was swing, blues, bop, avant-garde, fusion – and spiritual jazz. Plurality became a defining feature and the immense breadth of their output made both SABA and MPS worthy European counterparts to American imprints such as Blue Note and Impulse.
