With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what the electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance art standards. Roth wasn't blessed with great technique, unlike Eddie, but he had a flair for showmanship derived as much from lounge performers as Robert Plant. Together, they made Van Halen into the most popular American rock & roll band of the late '70s and early '80s, and in the process set the template for hard rock and heavy metal for the '80s. Throughout the '80s, it was impossible not to hear Van Halen's instrumental technique on records that ranged from the heaviest metal to soft pop.

Van Halen did more than announce to the world the earthshaking arrival of a revolutionary guitarist. Performed by an enterprising California quartet that took its name from two of its principal members, the 1978 debut ripped headlines away from punk, injected fresh energy into a then-moribund rock 'n' roll scene, reimagined how heavy music and throwback pop could coexist, and invited everyone to experience the top-down pleasures of a beachfront Saturday night every day of the week no matter where they lived. Painstakingly restored by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, and the first of a multi-album series in an exciting partnership between the famous reissue label and Van Halen, Van Halen delivers feel-good thrills and hormonally charged desires like never before.

Reinventing Van Halen proved to be a tricky task, so Eddie Van Halen proceeded to reunite the band…a move so obvious it should have come as no surprise that it was easier said than done. Sammy Hagar was brought in for a 2004 hits album and an accompanying tour, a project that collapsed in acrimony so noxious that founding bassist Michael Anthony left with the Red Rocker. Eddie brought in his son Wolfgang as Anthony's replacement and began a prolonged courtship of David Lee Roth that first led to a tour, and then to this, A Different Kind of Truth, the band's first album in 14 years and their first with Roth in twice that long…

Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection
This is the first album by Peter Gabriel. It is not extremely progressive. There are omnipresent aggressive rock guitars. “Moribund The Burgermeister” still has some “Lamb lies down on Broadway” influences, especially the miscellaneous original vocal expressions provided by Gabriel himself.

The Top 100 '80s Rock Albums span a series of genres as startling and varied as the era's neon-flecked fashions. No one was immune to the early-decade emergence of new wave, from up-and-coming acts to legacy groups – many of whom began incorporating the then-new sound into their bedrock approach.Meanwhile, classic rock and subsequently metal began a transformation into mass acceptance when the edges were smoothed out to form arena rock and hair metal, respectively. The arrival of roots, thrash, and world music influences kept things interesting, along the way. The long-awaited Gene Simmons "Mother of all Box Sets" THE VAULT with 166 unreleased songs on 10 CDs plus 1 Bonus CD from Gene Simmons over the years 1966-2016. Limited, numbered to 5,000 copies, and hand-signed personally given by Gene to the buyer. The Songs on "The Vault" : At first Gene Simmons wanted the sequence the "The Vault" box set chronologically, starting in 1966 with “My Uncle is A Raft” … and go all the way to the present. Later on it was decided to separate the disks by different moods. Gene Simons : “Sometimes you get in your car or you’re waking up in the morning and you want music that gets you going – kick in the nuts kind of stuff. Then other times, maybe at night, you want stuff that’s more melodic and a little more soothing. So there are CD’s in the box set that features big guitars, monster guitar songs and then there are other CDs that are more eclectic, with Beatle-esque big harmonies. So the songs are separated by mood, regardless of which year they were written or recorded.”
