VOCES8, the internationally acclaimed British vocal ensemble, is pleased to announce the release of their new album, ‘A Choral Christmas’ out on November 3rd via Decca Classics and showcasing a joyful, cinematic soundscape-packed hamper of choral and orchestral treats. A Christmas musical extravaganza filled with sparkling, cinematic new arrangements of favourite carols from US composer Taylor Scott Davis. Featuring several world premiere recordings of brand new works and arrangements, including the centrepiece of the album, a major new work for choir and orchestra, Taylor Scott Davis’s dazzling setting of the Magnificat, originally commissioned for VOCES8’s LIVE From London festival. Also includes a serene and intimate new a cappella carol The Sleeping Child from British composer Bob Chilcott written especially for VOCES8. Largest scale recording of VOCES8 to date – featuring the VOCES8 Foundation Choir and Orchestra for the first time, instrumental soloists and conducted by VOCES8’s co-founder and countertenor Barnaby Smith.

As VOCES8 marks its twentieth anniversary, this album stands as a celebration of two remarkable decades of music-making, as well as their global impact. It reflects a recording legacy that has been lovingly built and shaped by the dedication, artistry, and passion of every individual who has been part of the group’s journey. This album is designed to capture the ensemble's evolution with recordings that span an entire decade, from 2016 to their new line-up for 2026, offering listeners a unique glimpse into the variations of the group over that time. Each performance is a testament to the development of VOCES8’s sound and musicianship, both of which continue to evolve. At the heart of this album is the hallmark of VOCES8’S performances: a diverse and eclectic repertoire. From the earliest days of the ensemble, the group’s joy has been in exploring the full breadth of vocal music, blending styles, genres, and traditions to create a tapestry that resonates with audiences around the world.

‘Renewal?’ is a concept album, designed to be listened to from beginning to end, which combines world premiere recordings, include six tracks composed by Smith and three new commissions from Donna McKevitt, with three musical pillars from the 20th Century, by William Walton, John Cage and William Henry Harris. Performers include choral stars such as the ensembles VOCES8 and Apollo5, as well as members of The King’s Singers and I Fagiolini, Barnaby Smith and Paul Smith himself, with cellist Caroline Dale, violist Roger Chase, Westminster Abbey’s sub organist Peter Holder and a percussionist best known for her work with Van Morrison, Teena Lyle.

The British vocal ensemble Voces8 is proud to inspire people through music and share the joy of singing. Touring extensively throughout Europe, North America and Asia, the group performs repertoire from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary commissions and arrangements; versatility and a celebration of diverse musical expression is central to the ensemble's performance ethos. This luminous collection from British vocal ensemble Voces8 spans over 400 years of music, from Thomas Tallis and Gregorio Allegri to Massive Attack and Ben Folds Five (The Luckiest, which appeared in the Richard Curtis film About Time). The album 'Revolutions' from VOCES8 co-founder Paul Smith centres around an emotionally charged trio of choral works inspired by the past but with an important message of hope for the world around us today. The journey towards this album began with the release of 'Reflections' in 2019 and 'Renewal?' in 2022. Both albums received critical acclaim, with BBC Music Magazine saying: 'A superbly devised programme… A disc for the present time, immaculately sung'. 5 Stars ***** In this third instalment of the trilogy, Smith shares six new choral compositions and combines them with improvisations from a unique combination of instrumental forces. The result is captivating and sonically spellbinding.
