Kriminalinspektor Thomas Lynley hat alle Hände voll zu tun: Zwei verstümmelte Leichen werden innerhalb eines prähistorischen Steinkreises in Derbyshire gefunden. Eine davon ist die der Tochter von Lynleys ehemaligem Mentor, Andy Maiden. Darüber hinaus wurde die Partnerin des Inspektors, Barbara Havers, vom Dienst suspendiert und wegen Körperverletzung und versuchten Mordes angeklagt. Wollte Havers wirklich einem ertrinkenden Kind das Leben retten oder hat sie einen Befehl verweigert? Warum hat sie dann auf den Kriminaloberinspektor geschossen, und wie könnte Lynley das moralisch rechtfertigen? Theo Bleckmann performs in 2004 in Stefan Winter’s cabaret opera »The Chestnut Ball« at the Opernfestspiele München; this is the beginning of a musical journey through pop, jazz and classical music to contemporary composition of New Music. For the collaboration between Theo Bleckmann and Winter&Winter the Japanese composer and pianist Fumio Yasuda plays a key role as arranger and duo partner. Bleckmann and Yasuda meet for the first time during the rehearsals and performances of »The Chestnut Ball« in 2004. Shortly after this first production, available as well as a CD double album on Winter&Winter, the artistic team Theo Bleckmann and Fumio Yasuda puts out another four albums, among them children songs for adults titled »Mother Goose’s Melodies«.

The most exotic actress of the 1930s and '40s, Marlene Dietrich performed her cabaret act around the world and recorded for Decca, Columbia and Capitol in the post-war period, after her film career had slowed. A thick German accent and her odd sung-spoken vocal style proved no barrier to international popular success and adoration. Born near Berlin in 1901, she began studying acting as a teenager, and auditioned with director Max Reinhardt several times before entering his drama school.

Two CD collection. ECHOES OF GERMANY is the ideal introduction to German popular music of the 1950s and early 1960s, with occasional forays into the 1930s and 1940s to offer a full array of swing, easy listening, musical theatre, schlager and Rock 'n' Roll. ECHOES OF GERMANY presents great performances by such legends as Marlene Dietrich, Lotte Lenya, Peter Alexander, Bert Kaempfert, Peter Kraus and Ted Herold, but casts it's net wide to include a handful of non-native performers who sang in German.

This two CD collection brings together recordings of German popular music from singers whose careers virtually span the twentieth century. Some of the artists featured here found their greatest success in the 30's; others were recording and performing until the end of the century. Many of these recordings had a strong relationship with film. Beginning with the earliest talking pictures made by the German film industry, recording stars were often also film stars.
