It's the year 1990 and the beautiful city of Hong Kong is under siege as the crime world goes 'turbo'. Triad leaders vie for power on the streets, drug trafficking is getting out of hand and the thin blue line that separates justice from anarchy is being erased. Within a few months time, the Triads will control every major crime activity in the Pacific Rim and no law enforcement agency in the world will be powerful enough to stop them. But all of that changes when the 'Angel Terminators' arrive, a new police force led by Detectives Ida and Hon, two close friends who are like sisters and watch each other's back in the line of duty. Ida and Hon are the best there is and they take on some of the toughest cases that ordinary law enforcement won't go near and take on criminal figures that no cop would dare go after. Excelling at gun fighting and hand to hand combat techniques, Ida and Hon are given authorization by their superiors to use any means necessary to stop the crime wave and that includes the use of excessive force if need be. Together as one, they're fighting crime their own way…but now, these two beauties find themselves squaring off against old nemesis, Ken Zhang, a deposed crime lord who is forced into exile after his men first clashed with the Angel Terminators. Now he's back with his loyal bodyguards, led by Miss Nishiwaki and ready to reclaim the spoils of his near-fallen empire. After his return, Ken tries to reconcile with Carrie, his former mistress and Hon's cousin, who is not happy to see him and has given up her old life to marry a young detective who works with Ida and Hon. However, tragedy strikes the group in more ways than one when Hon's family gets in the way of Ken's business and murder starts hitting too close to home. After Ida is framed for the death of a fellow officer who was 'on the take', the battle to bring Ken down gets personal and for the Angel Terminators, 'martial law' will be the only law that counts!

It turns out that Yan wasn't actually drummed out of the force, but recruited by Superintendent Wong (Anthony Wong) as an undercover operative. Just as Ming is achieving success in the police department while secretly working for Sam, Ming is gaining Sam's trust as a triad member, while reporting to Wong. Ten years later, both men, still undercover, have grown confused about their true identities, while their bosses, Sam and Wong, wage a battle of wits against each other. The fundamental human need for love and reassurance is the driving force of “Aberdeen,” a finely observed dramedy about an extended middle-class Hong Kong family. Impeccably performed by a topnotch cast and with a sharp eye for small moments that make big differences in people’s lives, the pic marks another feather in the cap of Hong Kong hitmaker Pang Ho-cheung (“Love in the Buff”).

80s/up till mid 90s Hong Kong cinema is like a box of chocolates… you most definitely don't know what you're going to get. While magical in some respect this disregard for audiences need for rhyme, reason and logic, Scared Stiff takes a long while to warm up to even if you're into this abuse Hong Kong filmmakers put one through. Starting very strangely with Halley (Eric Tsang) as the object of desire for women due to him trying to keep his virginity or being chaste in general, best friend Miao (Miu Kiu-Wai) doesn't mind stepping in when Halley won't perform. It seems that way anyway because I'm not sure what is reality sometimes in the earlier stages of the film. But best friends they definitely are as Halley even dresses up as a house robot so Miao can impress his date. Then slowly darkness creeps in as the car the two are in gets overtaken by robbers and Miao is injured in the subsequent car crash. The doctors notices his brain waves are unusually strong and possibly ESP is being heightened in Miao. Doctors (played by Wu Fung and Emily Chu) take Miao on an experimental journey where he's forced to enter the dreams of madmen in order to further the study of what makes madmen. Being reluctant over and over again, Miao hangs on so that he can score with Emily Chu's character and then Chow Yun-Fat turns up as a knife wielding killer who is also a cop…

This is different then the usual undercover cop movie. The main character starts off as a normal HK cop working the beat until he decides to follow a suspicious character into a cafe, the guy who they are following freaks and a gun fight ensues resulting in a lot of bloodshed. The guy who they were following was a nobody in the eyes of the triads and gets away due to the fact that the main character is in shock to see what he has just done. He hates his salary as a patrol man and can't even afford to take his girlfriend out to dinner,he becomes involved with a triad boss and is given the choice to go undercover. Now this is where it is different instead of the viewer being forced to view the cliched bring the bad guys down and take them to justice, the viewer gets to see a man fly high and not want to come down. During the film we often bump in to the crook he chased into the cafe at the beginning of the movie he screws him over every time which effects him seriously at the end of the film( I won't spoil). There are many fresh situations that are new and creative for example when the main character first gets involved with the triads he is sent on a mission to rescue his in debt gambling addicted wife from crooks in Macau who will only let her go if he has sex with her and gives them a good show. The acting is excellent, good plot (especially the sub story between he head triad and his wife).I give the film ****/**** for originality that never ceased to amaze me, a great HK film.
