Listen To The Music: The '70s California Sound is a 1996 compilation of music that is said to feature the much-praised California sound but are all of these artists from California? Not really and were all of them recorded in California? No, but Rhino Records can sell anything to make a dollar and they said this has the California sound? You must believe it or laugh at their stupidity. Regardless of idiocy, it's still good music.

Hip-O's two-disc Gold: Soft Rock collection pull no punches in its attempt to re-create the heydays of '70s AM radio. All of the familiar Sunday staples are here like Dan Fogelberg's "Longer," "Sara Smile" from Hall & Oates, Player's impossibly smooth "Baby Come Back" and Seals & Crofts' soft rock anthem "Summer Breeze," but it's the effortless inclusion of contemporary cuts such as Godley & Creme's "Cry," the Moody Blues' "In Your Wildest Dreams," "Tempted" by Squeeze and even "More Than Words" by Extreme that sets this compilation apart from its lazy predecessors.

This 70s Music Explosion: 70s One-Hit Wonders album was released in 2005 and featured titles like Play That Funky Music, My Maria and One Toke Over the Line from Wild Cherry, B.W. Stevenson and Michael Brewer.

If you're a blues fan chances are you're already familiar with (if you don't already own) some/many/all of these albums. But if you don't own these sets (or have only a few) this is a good way to own all 20 albums in one nice, neat box. The sound is the same as the individual albums which is very good for the various periods when these tracks were originally recorded. The jackets are fairly thick cardboard and are reproductions of the original covers. The outer box is also of good quality. There's a 34 page booklet that has a few paragraphs on each disc, and track lists, but no detailed liner notes to really put this music into some kind of perspective, but information on these artists and styles is available in various blues books/encyclopedias and on the internet.
