Ruth Ann - What About Us?
Genre: Pop | CD | MP3 | CBR 256 | 86.1Mb

Fans of the trip-hop group Olive will no doubt be interested in sampling lead singer Ruth Ann's solo debut. Produced by Enigma's Michael Cretu, What About Us is a pleasant, but unremarkable downtempo pop record where most of the tracks blur together in a pseudo-New Age gauze. Cretu's safe and samey production hampers this collection, but there are still a number of highlights, including the title track, a cover of the Cars' "Drive" and "More than Ordinary," a beat-driven track that hints at the kind of record What About Us could have been if it took more risks. Originally known as Aura, Via Lumini were formed in Brazil by a quintet of young musicians interested in reviving the traditional sounds of seventies progressive music in South America. Though quite young at the time, the band managed to secure a recording contract with PRW and released their lengthy debut album in 1991. The band's sound shows obvious influences from a variety of classic progressive groups, among them Genesis (vocals, dramatics), Yes (keyboards), and Camel (overall tenor). Cézar Pacca in particular has been praised for his energetic and innovative guitar work…

Hamburg-based producer Stefan Kozalla, better known as DJ Koze, last released an album of original material in 2018, an eon ago in electronic years and one or two totalitarian sea changes past. If DJs reflect the world around them with their exploratory tastes and eclectic collaborations, you'd think the future was looking a lot more utopian based on Kozalla's fourth full-length Music Can Hear Us. Starting with "The Universe in a Nutshell" the album continues to Damon Albarn's Auto-Tuned warbling over the spindly plucking of what sounds like a Malian ngoni.
