While She Sleeps

In a strange way, this feels like a second debut, we have the same excitement and nervousness around releasing it, like it’s the first step of the band's career. Our youthful inspirations have taken the forefront on this record. We find the scene that we’re associated with overcrowded, diluted, and for the most part uninspiring. This isn’t an admission of some cocky attitude towards our ‘superior’ music, more so that we’ve been drawing inspiration from an array of misfit artists far from where you would usually pigeonhole While She Sleeps rather than the typical metalcore movement that surrounds heavy music. Each member has brought in a different perspective of inspiration so far apart in genre that it has left us with a very odd and satisfying sonic. To name a few, Kendrick Lamar, Aphex Twin, Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, Limp Bizkit, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Bicep, Rammstein, AFI, Janes Addiction, Placebo, Deafheaven, Alice In Chains.

While She Sleeps have made a career out of confounding expectations, through their dizzying blend of crushing metal, guttural hardcore and arena-worthy hooks.

Blue Coast Records and Grammy-Nominated jazz pianist, Art Lande have teamed up to release this extraordinary collection of classic songs and original pieces. The quiet, subtle nature of the recording is a masterful example of key control and pedaling of which every pianist will want to take note. Performed on an 1885 Steinway, without the use of studio enhancements like equalization, compression, reverb or other digital effects the recordings were immediately sought after by audiophile manufacturers to demonstrate their gear.

While She Sleeps is the debut solo release from indie-folk artist Leah James. Hushed one minute and as lush as a Hollywood film score the next, the album was entirely self-written and self-produced by James.

"Most of the tunes here were penned by the leader, and they’re very good and varied, played by a very nice line-up. I particularly enjoyed the agile rhythm pairing of Penman and Calvaire, who seem very responsive to the soloists, whilst providing high-quality grooves at a wide range of tempos. The opener Short Trip is reminiscent of some of the work on Jason Rebello’s 1990 debut album A Clearer View, with its tendency towards grooves that edge towards fusion, sometimes with unison running left-hand piano and bass lines amongst the overall texture…
