The Story of Wish You Were Here is a direct-to-video documentary about the making of Wish You Were Here album by Pink Floyd. After being shown on a few television channels, such as BBC Four, it was released on 26 June 2012, on DVD and Blu-ray. The film gives an extensive insight of concept, recording the songs and designing the album cover. It includes exclusive interviews with almost every key person, who participated in producing the album. It is the second Pink Floyd documentary by Eagle Rock, the previous being The Making of the Dark Side of the Moon (2003).The band is represented by all three surviving members – David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters. Other participating people include: Joe Boyd, Venetta Fields, Jill Furmanovsky, Roy Harper, Brian Humphries, Peter Jenner, Nick Kent, Aubrey Powell, Ronnie Rondell Jr. (who depicted the "burning man" on the original cover), Gerald Scarfe, and Storm Thorgerson.

Pink Floyd were smart with this album. Given the overwhelming success of its predecessor, they could easily have tried to create "Dark side of the moon, 2".

John Edginton's documentary explores the making of Pink Floyd's ninth studio album, Wish You Were Here, which was released in September 1975 and went on to top the album charts both in the UK and the US. Featuring new interviews with band members Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason alongside contributions from the likes of sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson and photographer Jill Furmanovsky, the film is a forensic study of the making of the follow-up to 1973's Dark Side of the Moon, which was another conceptual piece driven by Roger Waters. The album wrestles with the legacy of the band's first leader, Syd Barrett, who had dropped out of the band in 1968 and is eulogised in the album's centrepiece, Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Pink Floyd had become one of the biggest bands in the world, but the 60s were over and the band were struggling both to find their purpose and the old camaraderie.

The follow up to 1973’s The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here is Floyd's second album with a conceptual theme written entirely by Roger Waters and is largely a tribute to Syd Barrett, whose mental breakdown had forced him to leave the group seven years earlier.

Welcome to Wish You Were Here, the latest mix of new progressive sounds that accompanies issue 80 of Prog. It's a delightfully mixed bag this month. Brit proggers IT and Jouis weigh in with lengthy and wonderfully structured epics, while Galahad, Koyo, Circus and Aisles lessen the bombast for something more gentle and distinctly melodic. It's always good to hear music from Mariusz Duda, and here he offers something from his forthcoming fifth Lunatic Soul album Fractured. The Longing and Serpentyne mix muscular rock with a folky edge.
