Work Songs

Man @ Work is the eighth solo album by former Men at Work lead singer Colin Hay. The album is essentially a career-retrospective for Hay and roughly half of the songs on this album are Hay's solo studio renderings of works from the Men at Work catalog, while several others are remixes or re-recordings of material from his solo albums. Some songs are almost identical to the original recordings (e.g. "Be Good Johnny") while others are complete reinterpretations (e.g. acoustic versions of "Down Under" and "Who Can It Be Now?"). The album concludes with a version of "Down Under" recorded with the group Wild Clams.

Work songs, ritual or festive music, music and rhythms from slavery have significantly marked the American popular music. It shows influences of Congo in the Caribbean, Brazil, the United States. The songs of hope until the abolition Civil Rights Movement or the emergence of free jazz, music express these intense as human resilience that hope. They trace the path of a major socio-cultural events in our history.

Sea Songs didn't start out as music to be heard. They were songs to sing, songs to help with the work, songs to pass the time. These songs were spread by the oral tradition, resulting in many variations. Singers Nils Brown, Michiel Schrey, and Clayton Kennedy join Seán Dagher and La Nef in performing these songs with a new twist, while preserving their specific character and original appeal. Seán Dagher is an active performer, arranger, and composer of music from various classical and folk music traditions: Celtic, Baroque, Medieval, Arabic, Quebecois, and Maritime. He is artistic director and principal arranger of Skye Consort and is a member of La Nef's Artistic Committee.
