Yggdrasil from Munich named themselves after the world ash or yew tree of the Germanic tribes and played progressive rock of a calmer nature, with flute, violin, and English lyrics. They are hardly known, as their own LP, recorded in the Robert Meilhaus Studio, didn’t get beyond the so-called metal acetate, a pre-state which can be played. In summer 1972, only 10 copies were produced by Meilton; they have never appeared in collector circles. These records could probably be sold for a four-digit amount today. The CD contains the five LP tracks plus eight instrumentals from 1970, then soundtrack to the TV series "Sommer in Sizilien" (Summer in Sicily), as well as five demo tracks recorded in the rehearsal room.
Cette version intégrale regroupe les trois tomes de la saga Yggdrasil…
Wardruna’s new album ”Yggdrasil” is out now! This is the second album in the Runaljod trilogy, a musical rendition of the 24 runes in the elder futhark, by Kvitrafn and Gaahl. With the use of the oldest of Nordic instruments and poetic metres as well as lyrics written in Norwegian, Old Norse and Proto-Norse tongue, Wardruna is now, after nearly three years in the making, finally ready to return with the second album in the ‘Runaljod’ trilogy entitled ‘Yggdrasil’. Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Einar Kvitrafn Selvik has, together with vocalists Kristian Espedal (aka Gaahl) and Lindy-Fay Hella, managed to make a strikingly beautiful and intense continuation of what was started with their first album, but without falling into the trap of merely repeating themselves.
Yggdrasil is finally back with a new album, for a long time this album has been anticipated by many of you, and it is up to you to decide whether or not it meets your expectations, but I will still review it for you as always.
For those of you who have not yet heard Yggdrasil, they play Swedish Folk Metal, melodic and perfect for head banging, though they sound quite raw at some points. They play fast and hard, sometimes accompanied by traditional folk instruments. The vocals change between raw and clean. Most of the songs have fast drums and guitars that play more melodic, accompanied by a violin and the voice of Gustaf Hagel, this is a setup that works quite well and manages to make eight good songs.
The album is very good, and I advice all of you to get this, my expectations were met, and I think most of you will be satisfied with the result as well.
