Yngwie Malmsteen Live at Budokan (1994)

The Seventh Sign is the seventh studio album by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, released on 9 May 1994. After the classically-tinged Fire and Ice (1993), Yngwie Malmsteen returned to his heavy metal roots on this 1994 release. This is one of his hardest albums; the songwriting as well as the guitar work shows the influence of bands like Rainbow and Deep Purple. Most of the material is solid, and there are a few outstanding tracks like Pyramid of Cheops. The vocals are handled by Mike Verscara, who shows himself to be a competent, if not outstanding singer. Yngwie Johan Malmsteen (born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck, 30 June 1963) is a Swedish guitarist, songwriter, composer, and bandleader. Malmsteen first became known in the 1980s for his neoclassical playing style in heavy metal, and has released 21 studio albums in a career spanning over 40 years. In 2009, Time magazine rated Malmsteen as number 9 among the 11 greatest electric guitar players of all time.

After Speak of the Devil, Tribute, Just Say Ozzy, Live & Loud, the Ozzfest collections, and both Osbourne-fronted Black Sabbath live discs, one would think that Ozzy had exhausted his concert-album appeal. Trial by Fire: Live in Leningrad is the first live album by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, released on 12 October 1989 through Polydor Records. The album reached #31 on the Swedish albums chart and #128 on the Billboard 200. A VHS video of the concert was released on July 1, 1991 through PolyGram Video; a DVD edition was reissued on December 12, 2006 through Universal Music.

A live recording from the Generation Axe tour, featuring Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi, will be released on June 28. Titled Generation Axe—The Guitars That Destroyed the World: Live In China, the collection culls performances from the tour’s 11-city run in Asia in 2017.
