Filling in a gap in Frank Sinatra's history, Legacy's 2015 box A Voice on Air collects over 100 radio broadcasts recorded between 1935 and 1955. This is the first collection to chronicle this era – over 90 of its 100 tracks are previously unreleased – and it's pulled from a variety of sources, including the Sinatra estate's vaults, the Library of Congress, and the Paley Center for Media, each strand assisting in sterling re-creations of original broadcasts from Frank's bobbysocks days, World War II, and the nascent saloon singer of the '50s. Sinatra wound up singing some of these songs in the studio but not necessarily in these arrangements, a wrinkle that would be tantalizing enough but a good portion of A Voice on Air is devoted to songs he only sang on the air.

Avid Jazz presents four classic Carmen McRae albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. “Torchy”; “After Glow”; “Mad About The Man” and “Birds Of A Feather”. By way of introduction to the release by our latest female artist, Carmen McRae, here is a quote from the original liner notes from “After Glow” the third selection in our four album, 2CD set. “Every so often the public is treated to an entertainer who is in some way special-not merely talented, but delightfully unusual. Lovely Carmen McRea is just such an entertainer. A vocal paradox, Carmen’s extraordinary voice is at once strong and confident, yet soft and tender”.Across these four releases you will witness not only the superb singing of the wonderful Ms. McRae but also her instrumental artistry. All four albums have been digitally re-mastered.

It is a fine piece of American History and Music spanning 50 year of Capital Records Artist and the genres that encompass their perspective era. This boxed set gives you a glimpse of Capitol Records History and changing direction through its various Artists.
Capitol Records 1942-2002 Special Box Set features six discs that dutifully cover six decades of music from the label that brought the world key recordings from the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Duran Duran, Les Paul and Poison. It's an eclectic mix, but by presenting the cuts snug within the pop culture confines of the decade in which they were birthed, the pacing never suffers. It's a club sandwich with Freddie Slack & His Orchestra's "Cow-Cow Boogie [From Ride 'Em Cowboy]," the Beatles' "Hard Day's Night" and the Vines "Get Free" for bread, and it's a fascinating look at the ebb and flow of the music business.

Born on 12 December 1937 as Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero in Newark, New Jersey.
Connie Francis the female pop icon
Connie Francies was discovered at the age of eleven during a talent show, six years later she received a contract from MGM. Their first single ('Freddy') was released in 1955, which, like some others, initially went unnoticed.
It wasn't until 1958 that 'Who's Sorry Now' (built in 1923) became her first chart hit in the USA, followed by 54 more until 1969. In England the most successful singer of the 50s and 60s brought 24 tracks to the hit lists (1958 - 66), of her 35 German-language original singles, 23 placed between 1960 and 1970.

This first collection of Sinatra's singles and B-sides with Nelson Riddle is also the best one. The album kicks off with the irrepressible 'I've Got the World on a String' and features such essential tracks as 'South of the Border,' 'The Gal That Got Away,' 'Learnin' the Blues,' and the movie themes 'Three Coins in a Fountain,' 'Young at Heart,' and 'The Tender Trap.' 'Rain' and 'Don't Worry 'Bout Me' are dark ballads good enough to be on one of Sinatra's 'wrist-slasher' LPs, and display a depth that many of his singles lack.

The Complete Capitol Singles Collection is a 1996 box set by the American singer Frank Sinatra. This four-disc set contains all the singles —A-sides and B-sides—that Sinatra recorded for Capitol Records between 1953 and 1960. Among them are duets with Bing Crosby, Keely Smith, June Hutton, and the Nuggets, who provided vocal backing at a 1955 session where Sinatra made two forays into rock 'n' roll. Those songs, along with about 20 others, make their first appearance on compact disc with this set. The packaging includes many photographs, detailed session notes, and a long essay by Will Friedwald, who explains that Sinatra followed a "singles aesthetic" that set these songs quite apart from the "concept" albums he was recording simultaneously for Capitol.

If the only essential Judy Garland record from her Capitol years is Judy at Carnegie Hall, this three-disc set from British EMI makes the perfect accompaniment for those who want to delve yet deeper. With 2007 digital remastering performed on every track, it includes the complete contents of four records – 1956's Judy, 1957's Alone, 1958's Judy in Love, and 1960's That's Entertainment! – plus highlights from many others (Miss Show Business, Garland at the Grove, The Letter, the soundtrack for I Could Go on Singing, The Judy Garland Show). Judy and Alone are not only career landmarks but a pair of the best vocal albums of the '50s, with arrangements from Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins (respectively) that pulled out all the stops in a manner that had only ever appeared on Sinatra albums. Bonus material includes two previously unreleased alternate takes from The London Sessions and mono mixes for several LP tracks (that were chosen because they were judged superior to existing stereo mixes).
