There are no flaws on this album,in fact this is an incredible album filled with Fender Rhodes, organ, chunky bass and fantastic drumming. The three members are from the band SETNA and Wayside Music describes the music here as: "…think SETNA channeling ONE SHOT, but in a more proggy way".There is some guest sax and female vocals along with Chau Gongs which really add some atmosphere to the proceedings…
Rhun are a French sextet playing zeuhl and avant progressive-influenced music. Their first album came out a decade ago on AltrOck and they’ve just resurfaced with their excellent second album here.
Scherzoo is an Avant-Prog/Zeuhl/RIO band founded by the composer/multi-instrumentalist François Thollot around 2005 after his solo album "Contact" recorded with the participation of Phillipe Bussonnet and Daniel Jeand'heur. Four albums has already been released: "01" in 2011, "02" in 2012, "03" in 2015 and "04" in 2018. Darkened jazz with a lot of avant-garde, Canterbury and some zeuhl influences. Where the first album was saxophone dominated, there is a lot more Hammond organs on "02". The balance between Hammond organs, guitars and saxophone creates an entity which really works on second album. The music itself is pretty much RIO melody structures dominated. The mood is dark and brooding.
Serge Bringolf is a drummer and composer hailing from France. He has worked with numerous musicians, the most well known of which is work that he did with Jaco Pastorius in the 1980s. Bringolf's music is often characterized as jazz-rock, but it is more appropriately placed squarely within the Zeuhl genre. One can hear very clear strains of Magma's influence throughout all of his solo work, nonetheless Bringolf's sound has more often been compared with that of early Zao, Art Zoyd and Jaques Thollot…
Cycle I (2007). This French band incorporate two Fender Rhodes players, a female vocalist, drums, bass and sax. James MacGaw from One Shot and Magma guests on guitar here as well. By the way Udi Koomran mastered this beauty. To the casual prog fan this venture by French band Setna just might be the best way of approaching the Zeuhl brand. The mad and overtly gibberish laden characteristics that often sound like showering opera singers and piano playing walruses here are exchanged for something softer and far sweeter…
