How often does a certain piece of music revive memories of important events from times gone by? This double SACD - from the new series "Memories Are Made Of This" - has been put together for exactly this purposey to bring back those memories. Those amongst us who grew up during the 1950s, experiencing their very own storm and stress period, will certainly be familitif with the titles on these SACDs and quite capable of singing or whistling along - or just humming the tune.

The Chiaroscuro Quartet was formed in 2005 by the violinists Alina Ibragimova (Russia) and Pablo Hernán Benedí (Spain), the Swedish violist Emilie Hörnlund and cellist Claire Thirion from France. The Chiaroscuro Quartet made their first appearance on BIS with acclaimed recordings of Joseph Haydn’s Sun Quartets, Op. 20, described in The Strad as ‘period-instrument performances of the utmost subtlety and refinement’. The Op. 20 quartets are widely regarded as a mile-stone in the history of the genre. When Chiaroscuros now return to Haydn, it is with his last complete set of quartets, begun in 1796 when he was 64 years old.

Veteran pianist Eddie Higgins' celebrated trio album from 2000 features songs made famous by female jazz vocalists. In this drum-less trio, Higgins impresses with tasty and swinging interplay with guitarist John Pizzarelli and bassist Jay Leonhart.

LA Salami’s journey of self-discovery is one that extends far beyond music. Born Lookman Adekunle Salami in Peckham, to a Nigerian mother and absent father, various circumstances meant he spent the first few years of his childhood in a foster home. This feeling of being an outsider permeates his creative output, whether that’s music or the prints he produces alongside.

The Singles: 1969–1981 is a compilation of The Carpenters' music released by Richard Carpenter in 2000. SACD, released in 2004, was also made with the same name but with some difference in the track listing. In June 2016 the album was certified Gold in the United Kingdom for sales of 100,000 copies sold.

The focus for quite a few Jazz fans has shifted to Tuomas A. Turunen due to the defining role his playing assumes in the Emil Brandqvist Trio, currently one of Europe’s most successful piano trio. For instance, the highly acclaimed group was able to celebrate a nomination for an ECHO JAZZ award with its next-to-last album “Seascapes”; the current album “Falling Crystals” climbed to rank No. 7 on the German Jazz Charts. The pianist appeared on both albums not only as soloist but as composer, too. Among his teachers during training in Gothenburg, Sweden was Anders Jormin, a renowned bass player and composer in his own right. In 2010 Turunen received the Special Jury Prize for the Piano Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Noah Gundersen returns with his much anticipated new album, ‘A Pillar of Salt’ out October 8th ahead of a US headline tour kicking off October 9th. The project is a return to form for Gundersen, coupling heartfelt lyrics with his signature understated vocal performance.

My blood is spiked with emerald and I become green, glowing, sprouting new shoots from all over my body…” Diffracting through a greenwood canopy, the poetic words and music of vocalist/violinist/pianist Alice Zawadzki illuminate her unique artistry and the concept behind new album Within You is a World of Spring – the follow-up to acclaimed Whirlwind debut release China Lane. Zawadzki leads an inspiring band of musicians and improvisers in realising her extraordinary, often moving, occasionally droll, original songs: Fred Thomas (piano, drums, percussion, banjo, organ), Rob Luft (guitar), Misha Mullov-Abbado (double bass) and Hyelim Kim (taegum). Integral to the impressive, layered detailing is the Amika String Quartet of Simmy Singh, Laura Senior, Lucy Nolan and Peggy Nolan, and engineer Alex Killpartrick.

Dedicated to Antonio Salieri, the Three Sonatas for Piano and Violin, Op. 12 were published in 1798, and part of an extremely prolific period in which Beethoven wrote and published feverishly.

David Hazeltine is one of New York City's busiest jazz pianists and he has also attracted attention overseas, having recorded for a number of European and Japanese labels in addition to this work in the U.S. Producer Tetsuo Hara became particularly enamored with Hazeltine and has recorded him on a regular basis for his Venus label; this outing is a tribute to the great pianist/composer Bill Evans, recorded in late 1998.
