Antoine Doinel joined the army but has just been discharged. The film tells his reunion with Christine Darbon, the girl he was in love with before the beginning of the film, and his adventures in his jobs : first as a night watchman, then as a private investigator, especially during one investigation within Mr Tabard's shoes-shop… Mme Tabard is so fascinating.
When Redi Hasa escaped war-torn Albania in 1990, his few possessions included the cello loaned to him by Tirana State Conservatory. This “stolen” instrument enabled him to continue his studies in Italy, where his extraordinary talent at last started to bear fruit, including collaborations with pianist Ludovico Einaudi. The Stolen Cello is a beautiful showcase for Hasa’s dear instrument, a portrait of survival and a tribute to his homeland. Like many of the tracks, the opener, “Dajti Mountain”—a homage to Tirana’s stunning landscape—has a deep folk flavor, while “1990 Autumn Escape” brings Hasa’s flight to Italy to frantic life. “Little Street Football Made of Socks” is a touching snapshot of childhood—nostalgic, yet ultimately joyful.
John Hiatt's highest-charting album yet is a step down from the dizzy heights of Bring the Family and Slow Turning, as he abandons his more acid commentaries and turns in a self-deprecating set full of promises of reformation and celebrations of marriage and family life. But the observations remain acute, and Hiatt's singing (so much camouflaged in his early days) is becoming his secret weapon.
