With 1987's Permanent Vacation successfully restoring Aerosmith's reputation as one of hard rock's finest, Columbia Records (their first record company) decided the time was right to issue a follow-up of sorts to their 1980 compilation, Greatest Hits. The result, 1988's Gems, features almost all the tracks that were missing from the first collection, focusing more on their harder-rocking album cuts instead of the hits…

Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band". Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock, has come to also incorporate elements of pop rock, heavy metal, and rhythm and blues, and has inspired many subsequent rock artists…

At the beginning of the 1990s, Aerosmith were celebrating a high point in their career. In the wake of 1987's Permanent Vacation, which had gone 5 x platinum and spawned the Top 20 singles Dude (Looks Like A Lady), Rag Doll and Angel, their 1989 follow up Pump was an even greater success. With four hit singles, all on heavy rotation at MTV, Pump was certified 7 x Platinum in the U.S. alone, and earned Aerosmith their first Grammy award for the song Janie Got A Gun. In addition, Janie also received two MTV Video Music Awards, and is still regularly featured in lists of all-time great videos. In support of the album, the group embarked on the year-long Pump Tour, which saw Aerosmith play 166 shows across the U.S., Europe and Asia.

The 1995 Pandora's Toys is a bit of a curious comp. Appearing four years after the box set Pandora's Box, this single disc cherry-picks 12 highlights from that three-disc box – but instead of pulling oddities and rarities from those three discs, this has the big big hits that everybody knows ("Sweet Emotion," "Dream On," "Walk This Way," "Mama Kin") balanced with radio hits that remained staples into the mid-'90s ("Draw the Line," "Seasons of Wither") with just a couple minor alternate takes, like a live "Big Ten Inch Record" and an alternate "Chip Away the Stone," for good measure…

Ultimate manna for labels trying to hit the jackpot without having to look any further than in sometimes dusty archives, the compilations of first recordings made by artists at the very beginning of their career are capable of delivering the worst as well as the best. In addition to the question of the sound, more or less well captured at the time and the remastering work carried out, it is of course necessary to deal with the level of the group and its mastery of its repertoire during the passage in the studio. In this little game, Aerosmith comes out with the honors. Recorded two years before the release of its first album (which bears the name of the group), the songs of 1971: The Road Starts Hear are those found mainly on Aerosmith. What is surprising in the first place is the color given to certain songs, more than the unfinished side to which we thought we were entitled.

In 2015, Hollywood Vampires, the self-described 'best bar band in the world', played probably their biggest and one of their most legendary concerts in front of over 100,000 fans. 'Rock in Rio' is not only one of the most famous festivals, but also the origin of the Hollywood Vampires' first live album. With Alice Cooper as frontman, Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp, Aerosmith legend Joe Perry and producer and songwriter Tommy Henriksen, this band already has a top-class line-up. Still, the list of superstars doesn't end there. Joining them on stage are Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver) and Bruce Witkin (Grammy nominated producer). Special guests include Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Zak Starkey (The Who/Oasis). A star line-up that has never been seen before on a single show. The album was produced by Bob Ezrin (Deep Purple, KISS, Pink Floyd, etc.).
