Alan Ames

Un romanzo che ha come protagonista Alan Blair, un romanziere trentenne, alcolista recidivo e neoricco grazie alla caduta sul ghiaccio che gli ha fruttato un insperato compenso da parte dell'assicurazione. Una cascata di dollari che Alan impiega anche per assumere un maggiordomo professionista, Jeeves, che lo segue fin nel New Jersey, nella casa degli zii, unici a curarsi delle sue sorti. Alan è straordinariamente abile ad attirare i problemi: problemi psicologici, emozionali, sessuali, spirituali. Il ruolo di Jeeves è quello di un padre amorevole ma critico, di un amico, di un vero fratello che lo accompagna attraverso un viaggio faticoso verso la redenzione o, quantomeno, la ricerca di una nuova ispirazione artistica.

I wanted to do a project that honored America’s “sacred roots”/”sacred blues” tradition. On “Myth and Truth,” I marshaled the talents of a dozen or so Chicago-area musicians, styled as the David Danced Collective, to cover songs from that unique canon – or songs derived from or connected to that tradition – and added a couple of my own compositions. I gave them a rock update, with musical elements ranging from country honky-tonk, deep swampy blues, jazz funk, psychedelic rock, even some hip-hop… and an acoustic track made thoroughly and quirkily tasty by a closing clarinet solo and a suitcase harmophone.

Foghat's electrified hard-rocking boogie was a multiplatinum success in the 1970s, long after the fabled British blues boom come to an end-a testament to the enormous and wide-ranging appeal of the music as envisioned by singer/guitarist "Lonesome" Dave Peverett. The Millennium Tour gives us undistilled Foghat, recorded and filmed live in concert in 1999, shortly before Peverett's premature death at the age of 56.
