With a total of over 50 full length feature films to his name, Alfred Hitchcock remains one of the most influential and esteemed movie directors in cinema history. During his career, which spanned six decades, he created some of the finest and most critically acclaimed films ever made, for which he received any number of awards, and which are still hailed as classics. Hitchcock was a master too of choosing the right composers to score his celluloid creations, and the music was often as important as any other feature in his completed picture. Working regularly with esteemed music-writers such as Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tiomkin, Franz Waxman and Lyn Murray, the movie going public considered his choice in this area as important as that of his leading actors and actresses. This collection brings together five original, full soundtrack albums for Hitchcock films, along with numerous themes for others of his classic creations Totaling nearly five hours of music over four discs, this compilation offers a unique experience by isolating the scores from their original setting, thereby allowing the listener to hear them in unfamiliar surrounds.

Men never ruin themselves – it’s always the fault of manipulative and conniving women. At least that’s the impression you get from some of Alfred Hitchcock’s films. An example: The Paradine Case, in which star lawyer Anthony Keane (Gregory Peck) is all but ruined by a near-fatal attraction to the mysterious Mrs. Paradine (Alida Valli).

A musician since the tenderest age, for many years of my childhood and adolescence movies represented the one outlet from musical practice I could have. “Mommy, can we watch a movie?” was our daily plea, and “No movies for one month” was the most dreaded punishment. My father was – and still is – a great movie fan, and somebody who knew and remembered dozens of films which he had seen in his youth.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents is well known for its title sequence. The camera fades in on a simple line-drawing caricature of Hitchcock's rotund profile. As the program's theme music, Charles Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette, plays, Hitchcock appears in silhouette from the right edge of the screen, and then walks to center screen to eclipse the caricature. He then almost always says "Good evening." (The theme music for the show was suggested by Hitchcock's long-time musical collaborator, Bernard Herrmann.)
