All Things Dickinson

Originally released in 1987, Pleased To Meet Me is the fifth studio album from The Replacements. Formed in Minneapolis in 1979, The Replacements initially started out as a punk rock band but grew to be one of the pioneers of alternative rock. Pleased To Meet Me is the onlyalbum from the band recorded as a trio after guitarist Bob Stinson's exit after the release of their fourth studio album Tim, and before the addition of guitarist Bob 'Slim' Dunlap.

Incredible art blossoms when the stresses of time and funds do not weigh on its creator. It was with a generous grant and time provided by the pandemic that vocalist/composer Luciana Souza was able to sit down and compose a new longform piece without distraction. Along with her trio of guitarist Chico Pinheiro and bassist Scott Colley, Souza debuts her wonderful new composition, Twenty-Four Short Musical Episodes (with first lines from poems by Emily Dickinson).

Singer Tierinii Jackson and her songwriting partner Ori Naftaly are determined to bring new energies to blues and horn-based R&B with Southern Avenue. Deeply enmeshed in the rich musical traditions of their Memphis, Tennessee, hometown, Southern Avenue looks to have found a simpatico new label home with Chicago's storied Alligator Records for their fourth album, Family. The band includes Jackson's siblings Tikyra (vocals/drums) and Ava (vocals/percussion/violin), and also benefits from the continued presence of founding keyboardist Jeremy Powell. Bass is handled by Blake Rhea and Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi All-Stars); Dickinson, the son of legendary Bluff City producer Jim Dickinson, is a longtime friend of the band who appeared on their 2017 self-titled debut. The connection to Memphis' storied musical history doesn't stop there—Family was recorded at Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios by his son, Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell.
