Allegri Miserere

It is with great pleasure that we present you with a musical project of the Cantores Sancti Nicolai Men’s Choir — the album Sacred Music for Men’s Choir.

The aim of this musical tour – an expedition that travels backwards, from today to the Renaissance – is to reconstruct the overarching strands that comprise and unite five centuries of music of a "Roman school" famed for its contrapuntal rigour, melodic flair and popular roots.

The Tallis Scholars finest recordings presented in this the 3rd of three volumes, one for each decade, and each offering over five hours of the award-winning performances that helped establish the sacred vocal music of the Renaissance as one of the great repertoires of western classical music.

Rome – the ‘Eternal’ City. Once the capital of a republic and empire which defined the Western world in ancient times and left indelible imprints thereafter both physically and spiritually. A city of unparalleled beauty, a source of learning, and a capital of the arts which has inspired countless pilgrimages. A city which motivated the composers on this album to create some of their finest works including one of the most famous pieces of choral music ever written – Allegri’s Miserere.

This luminous collection from British vocal ensemble Voces8 spans over 400 years of music, from Thomas Tallis and Gregorio Allegri to Massive Attack and Ben Folds Five (The Luckiest, which appeared in the Richard Curtis film About Time). Also Includes popular classics such as Allegri’s Miserere and Elgar’s Nimrod.

The second album in the recording series dedicated to Gregor Joseph Werner is characterised by darkly shimmering hues between suffering and redemption.

"Sacrum Profanum" represents a new beginning for Polish violinist Adam Bałdych – but also a look back into his past. He was once a sixteen-year-old firebrand who set out to conquer the jazz world. And when his ACT debut album "Imaginary Room" came out in 2011, he was hailed by the respected German broadsheet the FAZ as having "the finest technique among all living violinists in jazz". The audacity of Bałdych’s lines was so breathtaking, he could almost have been playing a wind instrument; his multi-voiced motifs were more like chord-playing by pianists, and over and above these aspects was the ever-present desire to experiment and to transcend genre boundaries.

The most complete set ever recorded of Liszt’s output for the organ: new recordings, made on the superb, recently restored instrument of Perugia Cathedral by a musician with a catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings on Brilliant Classics.

Following its previous album Evoke, with the pianist Timothy End, the Ferio Saxophone Quartet returns with this exciting and innovative programme of works for saxophone quartet and voices. Founded and directed by Freddie Crowley, the Corvus Consort is a vocal ensemble based in the UK, which draws its members from a pool of young singers in the early stages of their professional careers.
