Almost Famous

Ryan Egan, better known by the stage name Ryland Rose formerly Ry, is an Australian rapper and songwriter. He is best known for his songs "Gimme That", "Circles", and "Good Morning", which all received national airplay on Triple J. His video clip was Indie Clip of the Week on Australia's rage for the "Good Morning" music video. His music was used on Unplanned America, a program on SBS Two. His recordings are currently released by Inertia Access.

Writer and director Cameron Crowe's experiences as a teenage rock journalist – he was a regular contributor to Rolling Stone while still in high school – inspired this coming-of-age story about a 15-year-old boy hitting the road with an up-and-coming rock band in the early 1970s. Elaine Miller (Frances McDormand) is a bright, loving, but strict single parent whose distrust of rock music and fears about drug use have helped to drive a wedge between herself and her two children, Anita (Zooey Deschanel) and William (Patrick Fugit). Anita rebels by dropping out of school and becoming a stewardess, but William makes something of his love of rock & roll by writing album reviews for a local underground newspaper.

Opening with "Three Time Loser," from Rod Stewart's post-Faces LP, Atlantic Crossing, this historic live show comes from the first solo tour Stewart had embarked upon after leaving the group he had attained his music industry fame with. His all-star band now featured former Vanilla Fudge/ Cactus drummer Carmine Appice, session keyboard John Jarvis (who had worked with Art Garfunkel and Ringo Starr), former Family guitarist Jim Cregan (who stayed on as Stewart's musical director and guitarist for almost 20 years), and Billy Peek, who had been the lead guitarist in Chuck Berry's UK touring band, among other engagements. • Stewart offers a healthy mix of solo hits with "You Wear It Well," "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)," "Maggie May," and "The Killing Of Georgie (Pts 1 and 2), and Faces classics ("Stay With Me "). He also performs a selection of covers, among them The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart Of Mine," Check Berry's "Sweet Little Rock 'N' Roller," Jimi Hendrix's beautiful ballad "Angel," and The Beatles' swansong rocker, "Get Back". Rod had departed from the Faces two years prior, but this show was very much still in the Faces-sounding tradition.

A high-school boy is given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone Magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies them on their concert tour.
