Le festival Africa est le plus grand festival de musique et de culture africaines en Europe. Depuis sa fondation, le festival a attiré à Würzburg plus de 1 400 000 visiteurs d'Allemagne et de l'étranger, venus prendre part à la richesse culturelle et la joie de vivre du continent noir. Au programme cette année: Youssou N'Dour, Alpha Blondy, Angélique Kidjo et bien d'autres. Le festival etait inauguré par le ministre des Affaires étrangères M. Steinmeier.

The son and nephew of UK dub pioneers Alpha & Omega (Greensleeves/VP) Alpha Steppa has been surrounded by soundsystem and dubplate culture from a young age. Now a talented producer in his own right his productions connect the dots between the music which he has grown up around and the new generation of UK bass music of which he is a part.

Le chanteur ivoirien n’en oublie pas pour autant d’être engagé, dans Maclacla Macloclo par exemple : « Ce qui a tué Maclacla va tuer Macloclo. Les mêmes causes produisent les mêmes effets » à travers une triste énumération historico-politique : « Tyrannie démocratique, génocide démocratique, tortures démocratiques… ».

UK Dub pioneers Alpha & Omega (Greensleeves / A&O Records) represent the foundation of UK soundsystem culture and bass music. Formed in the 1980's and with over 30 studio albums to their name, A&O have not only left a lasting legacy but are continuing to do so via collaborations with some of the most established names in reggae, underground artists and newly discovered talent alike.

Issu de Côte d'Ivoire, Alpha Blondy fait partie des artistes reggae les plus populaires au monde avec son mélange de pulsation jamaïcaine et d'héritage africain. Autoproclamé rasta africain, Blondy écrit des hymnes à Jah appellant à l'amour, la morale, la paix et la conscience sociale. Selon une palette allant de la plus grande sensibilité à la rage provoquée par l'injustice, l'essentiel de la musique de Blondy respire l'empathie à l'égard des exclus et des plus pauvres. En fervent partisan de l'unité africaine, et outre le français et l'anglais, il chante en hébreu aux musulmans et en arabe aux israélites. "Cocody Rock", "Jerusalem", "Apartheid Is Nazism", "Brigadier Sabari" ou "Sweet Fanta Diallo" font partie de ses titres les plus connus.

Jon Lamanna co-founded The Alpha Fire last year. The Seneca Falls vocalist already had become a familiar face on the regional music scene, having performed with Cry to the Blind for several years. However, he had no idea how quickly his new act would take off. Clear Channel Radio and Cumulus Media, companies that own 453 radio stations nationwide, work together to support unsigned rock bands across the country. Dozens of those stations, including Syracuse-based 95X, participated in the neXt2rockRadio contest, which pitted unsigned bands against each other in a grand battle for the top prize: a record deal with Big Machine Label Group.
