Pure piano magic from Bobby Timmons – a pair of great albums from his years at Riverside Records! First up is Sweet & Soulful Sounds – a wonderful mellow trio session from Bobby – done with a spare, relaxed approach that's a nice contrast to the recordings he was making for Prestige around the same time – but which still has the same deep, soulful approach to the piano that makes those records so great! Half a dozen trio numbers with Sam Jones and Roy McCurdy are rounded out with two piano solos, "God Bless The Child" and "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most" – both of which present Bobby in an especially introspective mode, one you don't hear that often on record!
is a 1982 album released by American singer on the RCA label. It reached #27 in the USA (#5 R&B), #33 in the UK and the top 20 in Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands.

Bireli Lagrene's New Album
Electric Side, the new album by guitar great Birli Lagrne, finds the artist reconnecting with his jazz/rock persona, in the spirit of his 1980's collaborations with Jaco Pastorius. The sound is an exciting and unique update on contemporary jazz sounds, featuring wonderful new Bireli Lagrne compositions, and an incredible cover of Herbie Hancock's “Jack Rabbit." For the recording, Birli has recruited bassist Hadrien Feraud, the “young Jaco" (John McLaughlin) and winner of 2008 DownBeat Critics' Poll (Rising Star, Electric Bass). Also with him are Franck Wolf from the Gipsy Project on saxophones; also Andy Narell on the steelpans, Damien Schmitt on drums, and some sample touches by DJ Afro Cut-Nanga.
Electric Side is a thrilling look at Birli's plugged-in persona', a fusion/jazz/prog delight that will appeal to fans of Birli, Jaco, McLaughlin, Steely Dan, Weather Report, King Crimson, Zappa, and so forth.
Grand Jazzman, Biréli Lagrène a joué avec les plus grands, tels Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano et a obtenu des récompenses prestigieuses, parmi lesquelles les Django d'or, les Victoires de la Musique.
The lyrics are very interesting, subtle and strangely refreshing. They songs stay with you, especially "Vacances d'Enfer". It is a classy blues CD with excellent harp work, low down grit (like in "Ode to Muddy"), zydeco, swing and New Orleans grooves. Also the vocal performance is probably the best that Forest has ever recorded. Having read the book "Letter From Hell" made the music all that more enjoyable. As a musician and songwriter Andy J Forest keeps getting better and he stands further and further apart from the vast reservoir of blues artists on the scene today.
