Anthony Wilson, the talented Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist and key player in the Diana Krall Quartet covers classics such as Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne" as well as some original compositions ("Road Trip") through to an unforgettable instrumental cover version of The Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" from "Abbey Road" as well as superb performances of "Prelude To A Kiss" (Billy Stayhorn). The Anthony Wilson Trio recorded this magnificent jazz guitar session featuring guitar, Hammond B-3 organ and drums.

Anthony Wilson is a jazz guitarist, arranger and composer. "Power Of Nine" featuring the super-talented and top selling jazz vocalist Diana Krall with whom Anthony has been recording and touring for the three to four years. Krall appears on the track "Looking Back" on vocals. The material includes a mix of Wilson originals and some jazz standards. The album is produced by Joe Harley and recorded by Michael Ross in Studio 2 of Sunset Sound in Hollywood (the quite legendary recording studio for Led Zeppelin 2 and 4 and almost every Doors album, Janis Joplin's Pearl, and more).

A possible breakout album for Anthony Wilson, this organ trio with the superb Larry Goldings on B3 features two of the finest drummers working today - half the tunes are with the swinging Jeff Hamilton on drums and the rest session drummer par excellence Jim Keltner who lays down some truly great percussion. Aside from Wilson's exploration of Latin, south of the border influences, the recording features unique performances of music by Ellington, Hawkins, Jerry Goldsmith and Van Dyke Parks.

The 2011 CD by guitarist Anthony Wilson is a gentle, thoughtful collection of tunes for guitar, piano (and sometimes accordion), bass, and drums, plus the occasional dash of clarinet. It's sunny, pleasant music that could easily have been released on ECM. Wilson's ultra-clean playing style falls into the Jim Hall/Joe Morris range, which makes it simultaneously quite pretty and kind of forgettable once the track in question is finished playing itself out. A little more of a Grant Green-style bite might have made this record more than a nice soundtrack to a late spring brunch. That's the problem with so much Brazilian music, though, it's so light and fluffy, it just drifts away while you're listening to it. Jazz listeners who aren't looking for a record that will sink its claws into their heart and never let go, or leave them breathless in the face of its virtuosity, but who, instead, just want to hear some nice, pretty songs for an hour or so could do a whole lot worse than this very well played, carefully arranged, and impeccably produced set of tunes.
