Nukes recovered from a sunken U.S. submarine have been planted in four largest cities of the world by a terrorist Jaffad Ben Zaydi. A code of fourteen numbers and a single phone call can trigger them any moment - this is the Apocalypse Code. An agent of the Russian FSB Darya Vyacheslavovna (Anastasya Zavorotnyuk) infiltrates the terrorist organization and vitnesses the killing of Jaffad, who at his last breath tells her that the code has been divided to three trusted persons. Jaffad’s partner “The Executioner” /Palach/ is determined to find them and trigger the nukes, so is Darya - to prevent it. They both begin their search for the code around the world, whereas one cannot harm another - they both have parts of it which the other doesn’t.

Apocalypse Now is one of the great films. Photography, score, acting and direction are without flaw. Coppola never scaled such heights subsequently. It seems the sheer effort to produce such a work extinguished much of his creative spark. Stravinsky frightened himself with the awesome force of his Sacre Du Printemps, and changed directions after, never to match this achievement; Richard Strauss fled into Neo-romanticism after writing the disturbing Elektra and Salome, unable to equal their innovation and power. But these seminal works (Le Sacre, Salome, Elektra, Apocalypse Now) remain as peaks of Art. Like the great classics of literature, each viewing of this film reveals deeper levels of meaning. It's stupid to even apply an arbitrary rating to this work. It would be like writing, "Brothers Karamazov gets 5 out of 5." It cannot be rated.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a God. One of a cluster of late-1970s films about the Vietnam War, Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now adapts the Joseph Conrad novella Heart of Darkness to depict the war as a descent into primal madness. Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen), already on the edge, is assigned to find and deal with AWOL Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando), rumored to have set himself up in the Cambodian jungle as a local, lethal godhead. Along the way Willard encounters napalm and Wagner fan Col. Kilgore (Robert Duvall), draftees who prefer to surf and do drugs, a USO Playboy Bunny show turned into a riot by the raucous soldiers, and a jumpy photographer (Dennis Hopper) telling wild, reverent tales about Kurtz. By the time Willard sees the heads mounted on stakes near Kurtz's compound, he knows Kurtz has gone over the deep end, but it is uncertain whether Willard himself now agrees with Kurtz's insane dictum to "Drop the Bomb. Exterminate them all." Apocalypse Now Redux is a 2001 extended version which added 49 minutes of scenes that had been cut out of the original film. It represents a significant re-edit of the original version.
