Applied Techniques Statistics

Consideration of computing environment issues prompted workshop participants to suggest a retooling of the computing environment for analysis. This would entail development of specialized tools in general packages for non-standard (e.g., sensor-based) data, methods to help generalize and match local models (e.g., automated agents), and integration of tools and techniques.

This course will introduce the learner to applied machine learning, focusing more on the techniques and methods than on the statistics behind these methods. The course will start with a discussion of how machine learning is different than descriptive statistics, and introduce the scikit learn toolkit.
