The revival of Vivaldi's operas continues with L'incoronazione di Dario (The Coronation of Darius), which has been recorded several times. This release comes from a 2013 live performance in Bremen, Germany, very well recorded indeed by Naïve. The title might lead one to expect a solemn opera seria, but it almost immediately announces itself, with a sparkling duet as the first vocal number, as something different and unusual, a sort of dramedy about the competition for the hand of the daughter of a deceased Persian emperor. A worthwhile and even entertaining addition to a Baroque opera shelf.

Full of adventure, I Pizzicanti set about making this album a reality. They came up with the idea for the project together with Céline Pasche, with whom the musicians share a love of the Italiano style. After lots of searching and playing the original repertoire with recorder, they were able to capture the spirit of this Italian style with the artistic means of historical transcription. As members of the new generation of upcoming artists, the musicians Nadja & Chani Lesaulnier, Rafael Becerra and Jonathan Pesek founded the group I Pizzicanti in the year 2009.

Il 6 ottobre 1991 si celebra il trentesimo anniversario della storica Marcia della Pace voluta da Aldo Capitini. L'appuntamento però non sarà, come da tradizione, da Perugia ad Assisi – è l'unica volta nella storia dal 1961 ad oggi – e l'orizzonte non sarà quello del pacifismo tradizionale. Quel giorno infatti decine di migliaia di persone provenienti da ogni parte d'Italia si danno appuntamento a Reggio Calabria per attraversare la città fino a raggiungere il rione Archi, il quartier generale delle cosche più temibili della 'ndrangheta e pertanto considerato off-limits da molti. È una giornata spartiacque nella storia della città, perché segna simbolicamente la fine di una impressionante faida che, con quasi 800 omicidi, tiene in ostaggio i reggini dal 1985..

This recording presents the double concerto for violin, cello and orchestra of the Spanish composer Francisco Coll, born in 1985. Les Plaisirs Illuminés, a title inspired by Dalí’s painting of the same name, is rooted in Spanish traditions, including flamenco, yet is resolutely modern: ‘Its music is very lively rhythmically, it dances and sings – but at the same time it is very abrupt, always in search of extremes’, says Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
