Arctic Fox

Since 2015, Kevin Closs has traveled in the Canadian Arctic, Greenland, Norway, Svalbard and Antarctica including the Falklands and South Georgia. The music on this album is inspired by the land and sea of these remote and beautiful places. From the edge of the polar ice cap to the Antarctic Circle, Kevin has experienced the extremities of the natural world. In Deep reflects the beauty, power and fragility of the planet. “A Blue Whale’s Lament” is a haunting narrative expressing sadness one feels when seeing first-hand the damage done to these pristine environments. Songs like “Leroy the Leopard” and “The Polar Bear Bar Song” remind us of the good humor and camaraderie found in the life of the traveler. Exquisite instrumentals balance heartfelt ballads and cheeky parodies to make up a truly inspired set of tunes.

Liz Bonnin introduces a cast of charismatic animals to reveal the remarkable strategies they use to survive, and even thrive, in winter. For animals this is the toughest time of year, and preparations start early. In autumn, Siberian chipmunks collect food in their cheek pouches to stockpile in their burrows, while caribou make an epic journey to new feeding areas away from the worst weather. With the arrival of winter, the American bobcat has to find its prey beneath deep snow, while an Arctic fox must sniff out its very own frozen ready meal.

Stretching from the Antarctic in the south to the Arctic in the north, the Atlantic Ocean is vast, wild and unforgiving and each season brings new challenges for its indigenous creatures.

In many documentaries top predators like lions and tigers steal the show, but in their shadows small wild dogs use cunning and adaptability to make ends meet in a dog eat dog world. From the hardy Arctic fox to the desert jackal to the much loved red fox, these wonderful, successful survivors are the real headliners. Adaptability is what being an underdog is all about and with dogged determination they endure. They might be underdogs, but with their resilience, they always come out on top.
