The Queen Of Soul creates a rich musical portrait of Franklin s incomparable run at Atlantic Records between 1967 and 1976. Packed with 87 songs arranged chronologically, the set opens with generous selections from the first five studio albums she recorded for the label I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, Aretha Arrives, Lady Soul, Aretha Now, and Soul 69. Recorded between 1967 and 1968, all five of the albums topped the R&B charts and gave the world classics like "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "Chain of Fools," "Think," and the #1 smash "Respect." The set also mixes in several rare outtakes of songs like "It Was You" from Aretha Arrives and "Talk to Me, Talk to Me" from Soul 69.

This nearly hour-long live set captures Aretha Franklin – the unmitigated Queen of Soul – during a 1972 appearance at a National Association of Radio and Television Announcers function in the City of Brotherly Love. Franklin was cresting a secondary wave of success thanks to the crossover appeal of Aretha Live at Fillmore West (1971). Plus, her most recent studio offering Young, Gifted and Black (1972) also spawned a pair of Top Ten pop singles – the funky opener "Rock Steady" and the jazzy "Day Dreaming," the latter of which is linked here in a medley alongside the 1968 hit "Think." Likewise, she combines a verse and chorus of her signature sides "I Never Loved a Man (The Way That I Love You)" and "I Say a Little Prayer".

"Love All The Hurt Away" is the thirtieth studio album by American singer Aretha Franklin, the singer's second release for Arista Records. Despite strong reviews, it was a sales disappointment, topping off below 250,000 copies. Aretha's cover version of Sam & Dave's classic hit "Hold On! I'm Coming" won Franklin her 11th Grammy Award in the Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female category. It was her first Grammy win since 1974. The album was remastered in 2012 by Big Break Records and included 3 bonus tracks.

Mobile Fidelity reissued two of Aretha Franklin's best albums, Aretha Now and Lady Soul, on one gold CD. Although these are two classic records, only hardcore Aretha fans will need to acquire this disc, since the disc carries such a high retail price. Granted, Mobile Fidelity's remastering is very good, but the remastering on the individual CD reissues nearly matches it, and those are available for considerably less money. Audiophiles will prefer this version, and they'll gladly play the steep ticket price, but most fans will be satisfied with either the remastered CD versions of the individual albums or the box set. ~allmusic
