Peiwoh is the long-awaited second solo album by the extraordinary singer/harpist Arianna Savall. Both the music and the repertoire of Peiwoh expand greatly on her debut album Bella Terra. Here, the music is performed by a unique nine-piece ensemble including brother Ferran Savall on vocals and theorbo. The album's theme is based on the taoist tale of Prince Peiwoh, who played a magical harp whose stubborn spirit could only be tamed by the greatest of musicians. This album, like so many on the Alia Vox label, represents a seamless blending of various traditions from east and west, classical and world. Arianna Savall plays a variety of instruments ranging from the small Gothic harp to the majestic Celtic harp.

Two of the major works that made Claudio Monteverdi the innovator of the musical world of his time were concentrated between 1607 and 1608 in Mantua: Orfeo, Favola in musica in 5 acts (24th February 1607, libretto by Alessandro Striggio Jr.) and Arianna, Tragedia in a single act (28th May 1608, libretto by Ottavio Rinuccini). The disappearance of any of Arianna's scores remains an unsolved mystery. We do not know what the musical style of the opera was, but from Rinuccini's libretto, we can guess that it was a development of the Florentine model of the Musiche di Iacopo Peri […] sopra l'Euridice del signor Ottavio Rinuccini (Florence, 6th October 1600).

In her first solo album as a singer and harpist, Arianna Savall introduces us to a repertoire from the medieval and Baroque periods performed with seven different historical harps. The music comes from three countries where the harp has held a prominent position in cultural life: Italy, France, and Spain, in which the harp experienced a flowering of unique variety and beauty. Arianna Savall with her crystalline voice and her sweet playing, reaches the depths of these distant but at the same time so timeless music.
