In a race against time, Asterix, Obelix and friends set out from Gaul - by means of a magic carpet - to rescue an Indian princess. As usual, they create havoc along the way, but emerge (almost) unscathed. This is the 30th Asterix comic strip adventure.

Getafix has broken his golden sickle, so Asterix and Obelix visit Lutetia to buy a new one for him. But the sicklesmith—a cousin of Obelix—has vanished without a trace. Where could he have gone? And can Asterix solve the mystery and bring Getafix what he needs? Asterix and the Golden Sickle is the second volume of the Asterix comic book series, by René Goscinny (stories) and Albert Uderzo (illustrations). It was first serialized in Pilote issues 42-74 in 1960.

Asterix and the Black Gold (original name: L'Odyssée d'Astérix) is the twenty-sixth volume of Asterix comic book series, originally published in 1981. It is the second book to be published after the death of René Goscinny and is thus both written and drawn by Albert Uderzo.The book describes Asterix's and Obelix's voyage to Mesopotamia. It is mainly inspired by two completely different things: James Bond movies and biblical tales.

After another raid in an empty village, the chief of the Vikings Timandahaf misunderstands the explanation of his druid Cryptograf that "fear gives wings to the dwellers" and believes that fear actually makes the villagers fly. They decide to chase the champion of fear in Gaul to learn how to fly and make them invincible warriors. Meanwhile, the nephew of Vitalstatistix, Justforkix, is sent from Parisium to the Gaulish village to become a man and Asterix and Obelix are assigned to train the youngster. The stupid son of Cryptograf, Olaf, listens to a conversation of the coward Justforkix with Asterix and Obelix and kidnaps him. While returning to the Viking village, Justforkix meets Abba, the daughter of Timandahaf, and they fall in love for each other. But the Machiavellian and ambitious Cryptograf plan to marry his son Olaf with Abba and become powerful. In the end, Asterix realizes that it is not fear that gives wings, it is love.
