‘Vigils End’ was filmed and recorded at Leamington Spa Assembly Rooms on the 24th November as the final show on the short 7 date UK tour in 2021. These were the only dates performed on what was originally planned to be an extensive international tour that was postponed and finally cancelled due to the covid pandemic. The shows were to feature the new ‘Weltschmerz’ album and the final performances of the entire ‘Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors’ album on its 30th anniversary and had begun on March 13th 2020 at Aberdeen Lemon Tree.

1976 is a new compilation boxset containing the two versions of both albums: the original form and a new stereo mix by Richard Whittaker, as overseen by guitarist Scott Gorham and mastered by Andy Pearce. Other discs contain unreleased mixes from the band's vault, radio sessions and an unreleased show from Cleveland. Also included is a Blu-ray Audio disc containing an Atmos mix of both albums. The 5 CD/Blu-ray Audio set is housed in a 10x10 box with sleeve notes by Mojo's Mark Blade and has a hard-backed booklet packed with rare photos and memorabilia, with contributions from long-time contributor Jim Fitzpatrick. Singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, bassist Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice—Deep Purple’s famed Mk II lineup—turned studio staples like “Smoke On The Water,” “Highway Star,” and “Space Truckin’” into explosive live statements. “We came halfway around the world and found the audience singing every word. It was magical,” Glover recalls in the collection’s liner notes. The band enlisted engineer Martin Birch — who had worked on several of their best-known studio albums — to record the shows to eight-track tape at Festival Hall in Osaka and the Budokan in Tokyo. The blu-ray features a Guy Fletcher Dolby Atmos Mix, an exclusive instrumental mix (in Atmos) and the original stereo mix. This has 14 songs, based on the original UK CD tracklisting, which featured ‘Do America’ (omitted from the International release) and ‘One More Matinee’ (missing from the US release).
