“This is how I want to make music!” That was Avi Avital’s reaction when he first saw Il Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini play live in Jerusalem. He’s now joined by the ensemble and its conductor and co-founder on his latest album, entitled simply Concertos and featuring original concertos for mandolin by Barbella, Paisiello and Hummel alongside Avital’s own adaptations of concertos by J.S. Avi Avital donne un second souffle à la mandoline. Né en 1978 en Israël, cet artiste pousse son instrument préféré dans ses retranchements : il en étudie toutes les possibilités, en repousse les limites et développe son répertoire - notamment en proposant des transcriptions inédites. Ce travail acharné lui a permis de jouer dans les salles du monde entier et d'être récemment nommé aux Grammy Awards. Un troubadour des temps modernes, plein de fougue. Dans le cadre somptueux du Château de Versailles, Avi Avital interprète les concertos pour mandoline de Vivaldi. Épaulé par le Venice Baroque Orchestra, le mandoliniste fait résonner de délicates notes baroques. Un exercice au centre de Vivaldi, un album en l'honneur du compositeur italien et de Venise. Works by Béla Bartók, Sulchan Zinzadze, Fazıl Say and others, as well as traditional music. The mandolin is the instrument of the year 2023 and its most prominent representative is currently the Israeli musician Avi Avital. With works by Béla Bartók, Sulchan Zinzadze, Fazıl Say and others as well as traditional music, he will take us to the Black Sea region as part of the “Between Worlds” project he initiated and show just how virtuoso the mandolin can be. Other performers include the Between World Ensemble, which Avital founded in 2014, and the male choir of the Rustavi Ensemble, which was founded in 1968 and is dedicated to traditional Georgian folk music and dances.
