Grammy award winner, multi-instrumentalist and lead singer of the former Frank Zappa band Napoleon Murphy Brock and the Ensemble Musikfabrik are releasing an impressive concert recording of the Zappanale 2019 with "Bad Doberan & Elsewhere".
2015 solo album from British space rock veteran Dave Brock. Dave is best known as being one of the founders and musical focus of the English space rock group Hawkwind. Brock is the only member of the group to have been a constant throughout the band's history. The follow-up to 2012's Looking For Love In The Lost Land Of Dreams, Brockworld is described as "an eclectic compendium of psychedelic rock songs, interspersed with evocative instrumentals and experimental tunes." The album was written and performed almost entirely by Brock. Brockworld is bursting with vivid ideas, a dynamic outpouring from a musician always seeking new sounds and different techniques.
A solid bebop pianist, Herbie Brock was an obscure musician based in Miami. He recorded two albums for Savoy during 1955-56 (Brock's Tops was his second) and a few slightly later titles for Criteria from 1957 have also been reissued by V.S.O.P. Brock's Tops features the pianist in eight trio performances with bassist Brooks Caperton and drummer Rick Hanson; six standards (including "Four Brothers"); and two Brock originals. The packaging of this Japanese Savoy reissue aims to be a recreation of the original LP, for better or worse. The music still communicates well and will be enjoyed by straight-ahead jazz fans.
Extensive set exploring the space rock and free festival scene, 1978-1998. Compiled with the legendary Dave Brock, frontman of Hawkwind, figurehead of the scene and inspiration for counteless like-minded heads.
Percussionist Jim Brock gets first billing on this CD that he co-leads with Van Manakas, but Manakas' guitar is the main solo voice, he contributed all nine originals, and he is largely responsible for the date's success. The music ranges from being classical-oriented to funky to atmospheric, and there is even a slight amount of straight-ahead jazz. Manakas dominates the proceedings and is joined on various selections by Brock (whose colorful sounds from his percussion set uplift the music), keyboardist Gary Marcus, electric bassist Steve Kim, drummer Rick Dior, Phil Thompson on reeds, and Alan Kaufman on accordion. This intriguing set is worth giving a few listens to.
