+ Thor Vol. 3 Issues #1-605 Plus Annual, Specials and One-Shots Complete

started with issue #1 released July 5, 2007 with cover date September 2007 and the latest issue is Thor #606 released January 27, 2010, which is the conclusion to the three-part story arc, "Latverian Prometheus". It is marked first of all by the run of writer J. Michael Straczynski who, together with artists Olivier Coipel and Marko Durdjevic, essentially took a moribund Marvel title, rebooted it and gave it a power boost, to make it one of, if not the strongest and best, of all current Marvel titles. As a whole Volume 3 has received consistently rave reviews from critics and fans alike, including record sales. A case in point is that IGN's highbrow but uneven reviewers started to regularly cover the title and not only that, began to consistently bestow Thor with its Editor's Choice Awards, giving it ratings ranging from "Great" to "Incredible"; so much so that Thor has been nominated for the coveted Eisner Award. Many thought after Straczynski left the title would suffer, but in these last three issues the creative team of Keiron Gillen and Billy Tan have proved with the given opportunity that they can indeed fill the shoes vacated by their illustrious predecessors, doling out a nicely balanced helping of grand action and character-driven plot. The energy given off by the climactic battle between Thor and Dr. Doom and the utter insidiousness of Doom and Loki in terms of story and visual impact are truly to be experienced. The Siege tie-in begins in . Great stuff, high quality Minutemen scan.

is the first of a planned six-issue limited series collecting the backup stories of the title character as they originally appeared in the 1960's Marvel title and other early Thor titles. This issue, released May 13, 2009, collects the "Tales of Asgard" backup stories from #97-104 from remastered reprints. I grew up on Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and imho, nobody can, or shall ever beat, the tandem in portraying the original Marvel Superheroes in action.

does not mean the end of the series. It does however mark the end of writer J. Michael Straczynski’s run of seventeen issues with the title that he helped relaunch in the top ten in the duration of his run, and this issue really caps the overall very high quality of his work. The other half of the creative team, Olivier Coipel could not join Straczynski for this finale, but Marko Djurdjevic more than admirably fills in for such absence with his handling of the emotional as well as dynamic aspects of the story development. The action leaps off the pages. Nothing earth-shattering here; simply a good comic book story confidently, competently done right, and which would ably pass the baton to the new creative team that will handle the next issue. The action directly picks up where issue #603 left off. In fact his issue could very well be issue #603.5. Included is a preview of the next issue, Thor #604, and a bonus recolored reprint of .
