One of the preeminent vibraphonist's in jazz, this CD contains two complete LPs from the onset of Gary Burton’s career. The trio album New Vibe Man in Town marks Burton’s debut LP as a leader, while the quartet album Jazz Winds from a New Direction showcase the vibraphonist in collaboration with celebrated guitarist Hank Garland. Drummer Joe Morello is featured on both albums.

As they’ve done with their first three albums over the past few years, Metallica will reissue their fourth album, 1988’s …And Justice For All, in special remastered editions on November 2nd, including a comprehensive deluxe box set.

Swedish vocalist Vivian Buczek has been on the Scandinavian jazz scene for over a decade, releasing her first album, Can't We Be Friends (Skandia Music) in 2003. Live At The Palladium is her fourth solo album, though she's also recorded with the Artistry Jazz Group. The Palladium in question isn't the world- renowned London theatre, it's the one in Buczek's home town of Malmö, but this concert sparkles with such energy and vivacity that it could readily have graced the venue's more famous British counterpart.

Throughout his life, from his very beginnings right up to the end, Telemann wrote for the basse de viole (as the French called it) and especially in chamber music. Of course, the viola da gamba also plays an important role in works intended for larger formations, such as concertos and orchestral suites, church cantatas and, lastly, oratorios. According to the custom of the time, Telemann also used the viol in funeral cantatas. Furthermore, he wrote for it as a solo instrument: for example, the Sonata in D major, TWV 40:1, recorded here, or sonatas for two viols or for viol and basso continuo. The present recording brings together various works with solo viol, selected from different periods of the masters output. Here one will find a double concerto for recorder, viol, strings and continuo, two solos with basso continuo, a sonata for solo viol and two quartets.

Bottesini is of course familiar to many musicians and music lovers, particularly double bass players, since the composer–performer enjoyed an undisputed position as ‘the Paganini of the double bass’ throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. This recording is a collection of five important pieces with a virtuosic and concerto-like compositional style, where the violin and double bass often take the lead roles in dense, surprising dialogues. It gives fans of 19th-century music an opportunity to experience the technical and creative richness of a composer who was extraordinarily artistically courageous for his time and gives due credit to musicians who for various reasons have historically been undervalued by the prevailing musical hierarchy.
