is a comics story arc published by DC Comics between October 2004 and January 2005. It appeared in all the DC titles set in and around Gotham City: , and . In addition, the prelude was published separately as the one-shot . War Games deals with the frightening and gripping circumstance of an all-out gang war in Gotham City and how Batman deals with it and how Batman's life and future will forever be affected by it. The War Games proper story arc has been divided into three acts, entitled respectively, "Outbreak", "Tides and "Endgame." However, it is actually just the mid-portion of the greater War Games saga; it is directly preceded by the story arc which serves, as the title suggests, as the prelude to War Games, and it is followed immediately by the story arc which is an "epi-sequel" to War Games proper.

is an influential one-shot graphic novel written by Alan Moore (of fame), drawn by Brian Bolland, featuring the superhero and title character Batman and his archenemy the Joker, and published by DC Comics in 1988. The story would affect the mainstream Batman continuity in that it features (spoiler alert!--but of course you know this already) the shooting and crippling of Barbara Gordon by the Joker, an event which would lead her to adopt the role and identity of Oracle, a vital source of information for Batman and other superheroes. The plot revolves around a largely psychological battle between Batman and the Joker, who has escaped from Arkham Asylum. The Joker intends to drive Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon insane to prove that the most upstanding citizen can go mad after having "one bad day". Along the way, the Joker has flashbacks to his early life, gradually explaining his possible origins--possible because he himself is unsure: "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" It is a tale of insanity and human perseverance, one of the darkest ever in the entire Batman mythos. This insanity is further explored in the subtext that Batman may be just as insane as the criminals and super-villains he faces, only manifesting it in a different manner. Alan Moore sums it best: "Psychologically Batman and the Joker are mirror images of each other." And such dichotomy between Batman and the Joker is never more creatively explored, either in words or in pictures--or both--than in .

is the title of a Batman comic book story arc written by Frank Miller, illustrated by David Mazzucchelli, colored by Richmond Lewis, and lettered by Todd Klein. It originally appeared in issues #404 to #407 of DC Comics' Batman comic title in 1987. It is one of the first examples of the "limited series within a series" format that is now prevalent in American comic books. The story recounts the beginning of Bruce Wayne's career as Batman and Jim Gordon's with the Gotham City Police Department. Bruce Wayne, aged 25, returns home from training abroad in martial arts, manhunting and science for nearly twelve years. In Gotham, he bides his time, waiting for the right moment to strike, all the while preparing himself. Gordon, meanwhile, has moved to Gotham from Chicago with his pregnant wife, Barbara Kean-Gordon, and pursues a career in law enforcement. There have been several reprints of the story: a hardcover, multiple trade paperback editions (one in standard comics paper with simpler coloring and one deluxe version with rich detailing in the colors — both colored by Richmond Lewis) and it has been included in hardcover. The four comics in CBZ format posted here are scans from the four original comic books above-mentioned. IGN Comics ranked at the top of a list of the 25 greatest Batman graphic novels, saying that: “No other book before or since has quite captured the realism, the grit and the humanity of Gordon and Batman so perfectly... It's not only one of the most important comics ever written, it's also among the best.”
