The set also includes a bonus two CD set made up of a disc of extended remixes plus a disc of Peel and BBC Radio sessions. Contemporaries of the Specials, Bad Manners and Madness, The English Beat (AKA the Beat outside of the U.S.) were part of the Ska revival scene that swept the UK in the late '70s. By the time they released the album Special Beat Service, they had matured into an MTV-ready Pop/New Wave band before splitting shortly thereafter. This box set contains all the hits, every album track, non album a and B-sides, unreleased live performances and much more.

In the early '70s, the India Tobacco Company sponsored an annual "All-India Simla Beat Contest." These events sparked compilations of Indian rock bands, Simla Beat 70 and Simla Beat 71, that have been combined into one package on this double-CD reissue. Very, very little Indian rock from this era has been heard in the West, and the sounds are both surprising and, in some ways, disappointing. Surprising in that it's uncanny how much this sounds like the garage bands that could have been playing in any country, although it actually sounds more like bands from Europe and South America that spoke English as a second language than it does like American or British groups. Surprising, also, in that it sounds much more like 1965-1968 rock than it does like early '70s rock, although that's understandable given that it can take years for Western trends make their impact on the other side of the globe.

Gary Moore rocked the world of Blues and Rock with his virtuoso guitar playing and soulful voice. Having played in numerous legendary bands including Thin Lizzy and Skid Row, alongside his own solo career, Moore is regarded as one of the most influential Irish musicians of all time. Having been honoured by both Gibson and Fender with signature guitars, the Northern Irish star is still regarded as one of the best guitar players of all time. A Different Beat, was Moore’s 12th solo album, where he explored new areas of blues and rock. This album has never previously been released on vinyl, and contains new liner notes written by Dave Everley. This release is pressed onto transparent orange vinyl and includes bonus track ‘Can’t Help Myself (E-Z Rollers Remix)’.

"During the sixties Adelaide had a thriving music scene. Once used inner city basements and cellars became dark, hot, noisy and smoky clubs and discos. Venues like Alan Hale's Beat Basement, The Scene, Alex Innocenti's The Cellar and Jim Popoff's Big dadd's filled with teen-agers to hear discs spun by local DJs and local groups pounding out R&B and hits of the day. Bands like the Masters Apprentices, Blues Rags'n Hollers, Southern Gentlemen, Dust'n Ashes, Blues Syndicate, The Vikings/Why 4, The Others, Sounds Of Silence and many others made their presence felt. Some were lucky enough to release one or maybe two 45s at best, however the emergence of a number of independant recording facilities enables many more to record demos and tracks to mime to on local TV music shows like Action or In Time. This is what we have here, hidden away for over 40 years, the fruits of that youthful energy hopefully getting some recognition, not afforded them at the time.''

UK collection. This follow-up to our recent Love Hit Me! Decca Beat Girls and Scratch My Back! Pye Beat Girls releases comprises superior 60s she-pop from the EMI group of record labels - Parlophone, Columbia and HMV - headquartered in Marylebone in the heart of London's West End. Most of the female acts signed by EMI were teenagers completely tuned in to the current pop trends. Scottish duo the McKinleys, R&B club habituée Julie Driscoll, talent show winner Billie Davis and Midlands pub singer Beverley Jones took original material from London's Tin Pan Alley and American covers and gave them an abrasive, vigorous kick that made for fabulous 45s. They may not have had quite the Polish of their US counterparts, but the rough 'n' ready sound of the Marylebone Beat Girl was precisely her appeal. Among the many highlights are 'Dancing Yet', a Dobie Gray-style discotheque number by Liza & the Jet Set; 'Like The Big Man Said' by Toni Daly, a cover of Italian star Caterina Caselli's 'L'uomo D'oro' with edgy English lyrics by Peter Callander; and Billie Davis' groovy gender-switched update of Chuck Willis' R&B nugget 'Whatcha' Gonna Do'.

26 Turkish Beat, Psych and Garage Delights Review by Ned Raggett
A European companion of sorts to the Hava Narghile collection that came out in the States the same year – Gökhan Aya provides the liner notes and assembly here as he did with Jay Dobis on the other collection – the rather windily titled 26 Turkish Beat, Psych and Garage Delights is packed with merry late-'60s madness from Anatolia. There's a bit of overlap with Hava Narghile in the track listing itself – among the repeat numbers are "Agit" by Yabancilar and Haramiler's "Çamlica Yolunda" – but for the most part these tracks are new to the digital realm, and those taken with the first compilation will definitely want this one. If the packaging of 26 Turkish Beats is not quite up to the levels of Hava Narghile – somebody really needed to properly proofread Aya's essays and description – what really matters is the music, and that sounds great.

Synth pop trio Bronski Beat’s 1984 debut The Age of Consent is a rarity in musical history – an album that both defined a generation and challenged the status quo. 40 years later and The Age of Consent remains as prescient and vital as ever as it did on its original release; truly transgressive - defiant, queer, and laden with hooks. To celebrate this important anniversary, London Records revisit the album across a series of formats, uncovering sonic archival gems, new mixes and more. 2CD - The Age of Consent plus 5 newly commissioned 2024 remixes. Hundreds and Thousands and 5 bonus tracks. Remixes from Absolute., Planningtorock, The Knocks, Dave Audé vs Tall Paul, and Superchumbo.
