These two albums are almost perfectly suited to each other, representating the peak of the Temptations' early- to mid-'70s output. "A Song for You" was a rare Berry Gordy co-production (necessitated by Norman Whitfield's departure from the company) Gordy and Jimmy Bowen came up with an album that combined a powerful, funky beat with gorgeous singing (especially by Dennis Edwards) and a range of superb songs. These tapes sound extraordinary on this release, like they're really being heard properly for the first time. "Masterpiece" was precisely that for producer Whitfield, comprised of just six songs, every one of them a winner, including the epic-length title song, possibly the best extended track ever to come out of Motown Records. The two albums fit together almost seamlessly (though one wishes that "Masterpiece"'s tracks were first on the disc), and the only flaw is that there are no expanded notes or album credits.

Guadalcanal Diary was one of the most underrated bands to come out of the Athens, GA music scene of the 1980s. Their unique brew of lyrics focusing on left-of-center subject matter married to irresistible melodies with a bedrock foundation of thrashing drums and rhythmic bass lines, resulted in a sound that set them apart from their peers R.E.M., Pylon and the B-52's. The two albums on this Audio CD two-fer are the first two of the band's four total major label releases. The first, originally released in 1984, was produced by R.E.M. and Don Dixon. The second, released two years later, was produced by Rodney Mills (.38 Special, Atlanta Rhythm Section) and Steve Nye (XTC, Bryan Ferry, The Cure).

Released in late 1986, "Think Visual" is the first album the Kinks did for MCA Records. Arista Records seemingly sensed that the Kinks period of commercial renaissance was over following the dropoff in sales of 1984's "Word Of Mouth". Indeed, the sales dropoff continued with "Think Visual", but don't let that fool you. "Think Visual" is an engaging, spirited rock record that no Kinks fan should be without.

Dark Entries is proud to present the deluxe 2xLP reissue of ‘Come Visit The Big Bigot’ by Severed Heads, oone of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of ‘industrial’ noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. After many line-up changes featuring Garry Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, Severed Heads was the vehicle for composer Tom Ellard.

Born Caroline Catharina Müller in the Netherlands, she moved with her family to Germany in the late '70s. In 1980, she became a member of the girl quartet Optimal, who issued two singles. During one of the band's concerts in Hamburg, she was approached by songwriter/producer Dieter Bohlen who had just taken the continental charts by storm with his duo Modern Talking…

Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the British band's 1986 album including a bonus disc featuring alternate, extended and live tracks. U-Vox was their eighth full album and the fifth of the band's most-recognizable incarnation, fronted by Midge Ure. It was also the last Ultravox album to reach the Top 10 in the UK Album Chart. Following the departure of original drummer Warren Cann, U Vox featured his replacement: Mark Brzezicki from Big Country. The sound moved away from the Electronic sound of earlier recordings and some unusual instrumentation was used, such as the Celtic sound of "All Fall Down" with instrumentation by The Chieftains. The album's final track, "All in One Day", was arranged and conducted by George Martin. U-Vox was the last Ultravox album with Midge Ure before the band split in 1988.

Blues and R&B legends Little Willie Littlefield and Champion Jack Dupree had much in common. Both had extensive recording careers stretching back into the 1940s and recording for independent record companies; both decided to live in Europe; both recorded albums in Europe and they headlined at the first ever Burnley Blues Festival in the UK in 1989.
Blues fans were treated to a weekend of blues, R&B and boogie with Willie topping the bill on March 23rd and Jack the following evening backed by the Big Town Playboys, who perfectly recreated the type of rhythm and blues Willie and Jack recorded in the late 1940s and 1950s.

Reissue with the latest remastering. Guitarist Phil Upchurch is in great company here – a cool, back-to-basics sort of group that almost gives Phil a hardbop heritage he didn't have in his youth! The lineup features excellent work on a variety of reeds from Brandon Fields – alto, tenor, soprano sax, and flute – each handled deftly, with an especially nice edge on the alto and soprano! Bobby Lyle plays acoustic piano – and reminds us what a great straight player he can be, even though we love his electric work – and the group's got a great bottom groove from Brian Bromberg on bass and Harvey Mason on drums. Upchurch is the real star, though – and sometimes solos with the ferocity of a horn on his guitar – matching Fields at some moments in this really great way.
