Sax-Star Bill Evans, who recorded with Miles Davis and Mick Jagger, features Max Mutzke, Till Brönner, Nils Landgren, Bela Fleck, Victor Wooten and Jerry Douglas on “Who I Am”. The 66-year-old saxophonist Bill Evans is undoubtedly one of the busiest and multifaceted musicians of his generation. He was a pivotal member of Miles Davis’ infamous comeback band in 1980 when Evans was in his early 20s, as well as with Herbie Hancock, Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, the WDR Big Band, or the Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin, to name a few. His bands “Push”, “Big Fun“, and most recently, “Soulgrass”, all defied categories and received critical acclaim worldwide (including 2 grammy nods along the way). This enormous range is presented on his new album "Who I Am" by the man from Illinois who now lives in Nashville. The guests on this all-star production already indicate the vast range of the production: German “Masked Singer” winner Max Mutzke sings on two tracks, Till Brönner can be heard on trumpet, dobro virtuoso Jerry Douglas is there as well as banjo jazz-legend Béla Fleck. John Medeski - without Martin and Wood - and Simon Oslender can be heard on the organ, Victor Wooten and Claus Fischer play the bass, Keith Carlock and Wolfgang Haffner play drums and Swedish funk-unit-master Nils Landgren can be heard on trombone.

Recorded 1959-1962. An obscure Bill Evans trio set (with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones), On Green Dolphin Street went unissued until the mid-'70s, when the pianist decided that it was worth releasing as a fine example of Chambers' work. Very much a spontaneous set - it was recorded after the rhythm section made part of a record accompanying trumpeter Chet Baker - the group runs through a few standards such as "You and the Night and the Music," "Green Dolphin Street," and two versions of "Woody 'N You." Although lacking the magic of Evans' regular bands, the date has its strong moments, and the pianist's fans will be interested in getting this early sampling of his work.

In 2019, following their joint tour of Japan, guitarist Robben Ford and saxophonist/keyboardist Bill Evans recruited jazz bassist James Genus and Steely Dan drummer Keith Carlock to cut The Sun Room in a Nashville studio. The group is back with Rolling Stones' bassist Darryl Jones in the bass chair. Recorded in the same studio, this set's focus relies heavily on a more rockist jazz-funk and blues. Common Ground was co-produced by the saxophonist and Clifford Carter, and its nine tracks clock in at just under an hour. The session gets unruly early on with "Ever Ready Sunday," a mean, funky, jazz-rocker. Kicked off with a power chord vamp by Ford, Jones rumbles behind Carlock's snare and hi-hat breaks. Evans solos on soprano and Ford follows with a meandering meld of jazzy arpeggios and blues licks.

Sunday at the Village Vanguard is the initial volume of a mammoth recording session by the Bill Evans Trio, from June 25, 1961 at New York's Village Vanguard documenting Evans' first trio with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. Its companion volume is Waltz for Debby. This trio is still widely regarded as his finest, largely because of the symbiotic interplay between its members. Tragically, LaFaro was killed in an automobile accident ten days after this session was recorded, and Evans assembled the two packages a few months afterward. While "Waltz for Debby" - in retrospect - is seemingly a showcase for Evans' brilliant, subtle, and wide-ranging pianism, this volume becomes an homage, largely, to the genius and contribution of LaFaro…

At just 16 years old, Jaden Evans is already making waves in the jazz world with the release of his debut album, "Evans on Evans." A prodigious talent on the piano, Jaden grew up surrounded by music, being the grandson of the legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans. Inspired by his grandfather's timeless recordings, innovative harmonic approach and contributions to the jazz trio format, Jaden began formal training the piano at the age of six, receiving lessons from his mother, Michele Evans, who taught him to read classical music as well as understand jazz charts and the fundamentals of improvisation. He studied for a few years with Michael Preddy and is now under the tutelage of Charles Chen.
