During his brief yet legendary career, the albums released during Jimi Hendrix's lifetime could be broken down into two categories – psychedelic hard rock and funk/soul rock. The latter style could be pinpointed to the 1970 release Band of Gypsys, a live recording which saw Hendrix hook up with old pals Billy Cox (guitar) and Buddy Miles (drums), and shy away from the pyrotechnics of his early days in favor of heavy jamming. Thirty-six years after the release of the Band of Gypsys' lone album comes a follow-up, Band of Gypsys Return, on which Hendrix's shoes are filled by such players as Eric Gales, Kid Rock's Kenny Olson, and Guitar World Magazine's Andy Aledort, among others.

Kicking off with the swagger and machismo of one of the quintessential 70's anthems, "Hot Legs", FOOT LOOSE AND FANCY FREE is a blistering joyride, a swaggering period piece that, like all of Rod's best work, immerses itself in the prevalent style of the time– by 1977, funk-tinged rock was all therage, and FOOT LOOSE is a carnival of wah-wah guitars ("You're Insane"), epic arrangements ("You Just Keep Me Hanging On"), and unabashed earnestness (the nostalgic and confessional "I Was Only Joking".) …

Never a Dull Moment is a 1972 album by rock musician Rod Stewart. It became a UK number-one album (for two weeks) and reached number two on the US Album chart the same year. The track, "You Wear It Well", co-written by Stewart and classical guitarist Martin Quittenton, was a smash hit (another UK No. 1; in USA No. 13), as well as "Twistin' the Night Away", a song originally recorded by Sam Cooke.

Opening with "Three Time Loser," from Rod Stewart's post-Faces LP, Atlantic Crossing, this historic live show comes from the first solo tour Stewart had embarked upon after leaving the group he had attained his music industry fame with. His all-star band now featured former Vanilla Fudge/ Cactus drummer Carmine Appice, session keyboard John Jarvis (who had worked with Art Garfunkel and Ringo Starr), former Family guitarist Jim Cregan (who stayed on as Stewart's musical director and guitarist for almost 20 years), and Billy Peek, who had been the lead guitarist in Chuck Berry's UK touring band, among other engagements. • Stewart offers a healthy mix of solo hits with "You Wear It Well," "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)," "Maggie May," and "The Killing Of Georgie (Pts 1 and 2), and Faces classics ("Stay With Me "). He also performs a selection of covers, among them The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart Of Mine," Check Berry's "Sweet Little Rock 'N' Roller," Jimi Hendrix's beautiful ballad "Angel," and The Beatles' swansong rocker, "Get Back". Rod had departed from the Faces two years prior, but this show was very much still in the Faces-sounding tradition.

In its simplest terms, Blondes Have More Fun is Rod Stewart's disco album, filled with pulsating rhythms and slick, synthesized textures. It's also his trashiest, most disposable album, filled with cheap come-ons and bad double entendres. Of course, that makes Blondes Have More Fun one of his most enjoyable records, even if all the pleasures are guilty. With its swirling strings and nagging chorus, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" was the reason the record hit number one, and decades later, the song stands as one of the best rock-disco fusions. The rest of the record isn't as engaging, but he throws out a handful of winning tracks in the same mold, including "Ain't Love a Bitch," "Attractive Female Wanted," and the title track.
