CLASSIC '71 SABBATH BROADCAST FROM DENMARK'S CAPITAL CITY Formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath are the pioneers of heavy metal music in the UK, a position long-now established and accepted by the rock cognoscenti. The band helped define the genre with their first three albums Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971). Sabbath were touring heavily in 1970 - 1971, promoting their second album, Paranoid, and recording Masters Of Reality while on the road across the US and Europe. On 14th April ‘71, they began a short Scandinavian leg of the tour, which took them to Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Generally considered the very finest of these concerts, their gig at Copenhagen’s Faulkner Theatre – the fifth performance of the jaunt on the 18th, and recorded for live radio broadcast - was a classic Sabbath show. Ten days later, the Paranoid tour was over, culminating with another dynamic gig at London’s Albert Hall on 26th April.

Live… Gathered in Their Masses is a live album and film by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It features performances from their 2013 world tour, recorded in Melbourne, Australia on 29 April and 1 May 2013. It was released 26 November 2013 as a CD, DVD, Blu-ray, and a deluxe box set.
The visual program opens with a collage of pre-gig ritual. The band arrive, and get ready in their own dressing rooms, the cameras offering a brief intimate glimpse. Before too long, the air raid sirens of “War Pigs” brings us to the stage. The Blu-ray looks absolutely gorgeous. Every line on every face is visible, every grain on Tony's Gibson SG, and the stage is gorgeously lit. It's a beautiful disc to watch in 1080p. … Even Joe Perry and Steven Tyler show up backstage…

Black Sabbath's classic 1970s output has been repackaged countless times over the years, but undoubtedly one of the best collections to surface is the aptly titled Best of Black Sabbath on Sanctuary. Comprised of 32 tracks on a pair of discs, Best Of focuses primarily on the "Ozzy years," but does include a small sampling of the short-lived Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan eras. What makes this collection such an appealing one is that it manages to include all the favorites, as well as a multitude of oft-overlooked (but just as strong and classic) album cuts…

Considered by many to be the first heavy metal band, Black Sabbath was formed in 1968 by Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. The band's original name was the Polka Tulk Blues Band (later shortened to Polka Tulk) and later on changed to Earth) before becoming Black Sabbath inspired by an Italian horror movie of the same name…

Essential: a masterpiece of rock music
This was my favourite SABBATH album when I was young. I suppose that was because it was so heavy and straightforward. I guess that's why it's not rated nearly as high as I think it should be on this site, because this is a Prog site. I still rate it as a masterpiece just like "Paranoid".
