The debut album Black Acid Soul from Lady Blackbird is one of the standouts for 2021. It's instant and within a minute you are hooked. Rough Trade Shops loves this album. Think Nina Simone, Hot Buttered Soul-era Isaac Hayes, Billie Holiday and Chaka Khan. Gilles Peterson called her "the Grace Jones of Jazz".

Guitarist Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns) and bassist/vocalist Todd Kerns (Slash, Toque, Heroes And Monsters) have joined forces in a new rock 'n roll side project, Blackbird Angels.

Blackbird Blackbird, aka the Hawaiian-born, Bay Area-based producer Mikey Maramag, is one of our favorite indie-dance artists of the moment. His style beautifully connects the dots between hypnotizing electronica, dreamy pop and profound complex melodies that will work both your mind and your dancing sneakers. While Blackbird (we're on a first name basis) has been on Platinum's radar for some time, his latest LP Tangerine Sky totally blew us away, and we knew we needed to know more about how he crafted this opus.

Blackbird Blackbird's new release Strawberry Light is a gorgeous collection of unreleased rarities, remixes and b-sides from the enigmatic producer. Kicking things off is ‘Waikiki’ a tribute to Blackbird’s roots in Hawaii. Originally included as the b-side of the ‘Love Unlimited’ single, this sets the stage for the album followed by the unreleased downtempo remix of ‘There Is Nowhere’ from Phages taking the original into darker depths.

Released in 1978, this was to be the last album from Mose Jones, although there remains hope that the final album - recorded live - which is said to have truly caught what it was like to be at a Mose Jones gig - (i.e., their truly southern rock sound) - will one day be released.

American new-music sextet eighth blackbird, which won Grammy Awards for each of its last three Cedille Records albums, continues to connect with genre-spanning, cutting-edge composers on FILAMENT, a CD of world-premiere recordings of works by Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly, and Son Lux, plus a Philip Glass classic. The ensemble’s album, FILAMENT, was produced by Dessner, a Brooklyn-based composer, guitarist, and member of the Grammy-nominated, Billboard-charting indie rock band The National. Premieres include Dessner’s Murder Ballades and Muhly’s Doublespeak, both written for eighth blackbird, and Son Lux’s To Love and This is my Line, a remix created from the album’s other tracks. Dessner, on guitar, and Muhly, on organ, join eighth blackbird for a live-in-concert recording of Glass’s mesmerizing Two Pages at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. The album’s title, FILAMENT, is a metaphor for the fiber of friendship, collaboration, and mutual influence connecting the composers and performers on the album.
