No girl singer achieved the world wide star status of an Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra and no girl group had anything like as sustained a run of hits as a Drifters or Four Tops. But in that heady decade between 1953 and 1962, the girl singers were no less important in the world of entertainment. Country music was full of girl singers, girls could handle a ballad just as well as the boys and many were recipients of songs by some of pop music’s legendary songsmiths of the day. Known throughout his career as 'The Tall Texan' Billy Walker was an ever present in country music from the mid 1940s up to the 21st century. His biggest sustained success came through the mid 1960s onwards, but prior to that Billy had recorded prolifically for some of the biggest record labels in the world, scoring enough hits to keep those record labels invested in promoting his records. 'Well, Hello There' is a potent overview of Billy's 1950s and early 1960s sides.

Kristoffer "Kris" Kristofferson is an American country music singer, songwriter, musician, and film actor. He is known for such hits as "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night". Kristofferson is the sole writer of most of his songs, and he has collaborated with various other figures of the Nashville scene such as Shel Silverstein. In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in forming the country music supergroup "The Highwaymen". In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
