Four-time SESAC Award-winning and Grammy nominee Pianist/Arranger Bob Baldwin continues his flow of music, and follows up with his tributes to Michael Jackson and Songwriter extraordinaire Thom Bell with his MelloWonder/Songs In the Key of Stevie CD. MelloWonder… takes some of his favorite songs from the catalog of Stevie Wonder, and particularly a huge chunk between 1969-1974, when Baldwin believes this was the beginning of an era where Wonder turned the keyboard into a “one-man orchestra.” The project is a dream project, which took two years to complete.

Thomas Walter Turrentine, Jr. was a swing and hard bop trumpeter of the 1940s to 1960s, the older brother of saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. He played in the bands of Benny Carter, Earl Bostic, Charles Mingus, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, and Count Basie. He later recorded with Sonny Clark, Lou Donaldson, and his brother's bands. His working relationship with Max Roach was spawned in part when he joined the Max Roach Quintet in the late 1950s following the death of Clifford Brown.

A legend of the tenor saxophone, Stanley Turrentine was renowned for his distinctively thick, rippling tone, an earthy grounding in the blues, and his ability to work a groove with soul and imagination. Turrentine recorded in a wide variety of settings, but was best-known for his Blue Note soul-jazz jams of the '60s, and also underwent a popular fusion makeover in the early '70s. Born in Pittsburgh on April 5, 1934, Turrentine began his career playing with various blues and R&B bands, with a strong influence from Illinois Jacquet. He played in Lowell Fulson's band with Ray Charles from 1950-1951, and in 1953, he replaced John Coltrane in Earl Bostic's early R&B/jazz band.

Thom Bell, along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, was part of the holy trinity of Philly soul. Reaching an apogee in the early to mid-seventies with records for the Stylistics (You Make Me Feel Brand New), the Detroit Spinners (Could It Be I'm Falling In Love), the O'Jays (Back Stabbers) and New York City (I'm Doin Fine Now), Bell was the classically trained arranger who introduced the celeste, the French horn and the harpsichord to soul music. This is the first-ever compilation of Thom Bell's productions and arrangements. Put together by Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley, Ready Or Not combines some of Bell's biggest and best-loved hits with rarities (an original copy of Connie Stevens Tick Tock would set you back more than £200) and lesser-known work such as Dionne Warwick's seductive Track Of The Cat and Johnny Mathis epic Life Is A Song Worth Singing. Star names including Laura Nyro and Lesley Gore line up alongside soul legends Dee Dee Sharp and the Delfonics. This collection will appeal to northern soul collectors as well as pulling in fans of sixties girl singers and lovers of smooth seventies soul. Bob Stanley's sleeve notes - with a rare exclusive interview with Bell himself - and a wealth of rare photos are icing on the cake. Bell's unique and instantly identifiable Philly sound has proved timeless.

With this volume we celebrate 20 years since Fading Yellow volume 1 cd. Fading Yellow created a genre all of its own and praised by many including Bob Stanley. "It’s twenty years since I walked into a record shop in Stockholm and heard Disraeli’s mournful, gently thunderous What Will The New Day Bring. I asked the owner what he was playing and he told me it was Fading Yellow volume 2. He played snatches of volume one. I bought both on the spot. Here was a new subset of music which I had always loved, without thinking of it as a subset. Fading Yellow magically bound the softer end of psych with singer-songwriters and beat groups; what they had in common - aside from woodwinds, harpsichord and cellos - was minor chords. The heart of Fading Yellow is rarely sad but always melancholy. Twenty volumes in and it still sounds magical." – Bob Stanley 2022 The usual high quality 45’s musically, this time from the USA and, as always, all the tracks doing their first entrance on any compilation. Groups including Magic Ring, Second Helping, The Mother Love, Luv Birds, The News etc. All late 60’s popsike and other delights. Don’t miss out on this wonderful volume.

When psychedelia had run its course in Britain at the end of the 60s, the predominant trend was to get hairier and heavier and more long-winded. Many musicians, however, were still hung up on the trappings of psychedelia's home-grown strain, having found a musical home in its mournful evocations of Victoriana, its village green gentility and its nods to the pleasures of suburbia.

Malach and French violin star Didier Lockwood were also well-acquainted – Malach would appear on Lockwood’s MPS album “Live in Montreux” later that year. Dutch guitarist Eef Albers had already toured the states with Lee and Brown. The title piece shows that Some People are romantic, some are more on the funky side, as the band slides back and forth between the two. Guitar great John Scofield’s Who’s Who is a funky fusion fest with van’t Hof and Malach showing why they’re at the top of the list. The alluring ballad Three on a Cloud features atmospheric solos by violinist Lockwood and Malach in trio with guitarist Albers.
