Stefano Bollani, uno dei più grandi talenti del jazz contemporaneo e divulgatore televisivo (è in onda la quarta edizione del suo programma su RAI 3 “Via dei Matti n. 0” con Valentina Cenni), ha recentemente pubblicato gli spartiti dei suoi 18 Preludi per pianoforte (Edizioni Hal Leonard). In questo nuovo album, disponibile in formato digitale dal 20 dicembre, possiamo ascoltarli interpretati dall’autore stesso in una performance che dà vita al suo straordinario eclettismo compositivo caratterizzato da un linguaggio brillante e articolato. La sua, però, è anche un’indicazione, un suggerimento: il Bollani interprete non vuole imbrigliare il pianista (o l’ascoltatore) con la sua esecuzione, desidera stimolare un approccio creativo per dare spazio a una visione personale. “Sono 18 piccoli mondi differenti fra loro. Stefano Bollani’s solo album ‘Piano Variations on Jesus Christ Superstar’ will be released on 3rd April 2020, 50 years after Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s original concept album. Bollani wanted his version of “JCS” to be completely different from whatever Broadway or London production: “I’ll choose the piano solo formula, because it’s a love affair between myself and this music.” He only sings one song, “Superstar”; the rest of the album is instrumental. Bollani, grateful for the exceptional permission granted to him to re-interpret the cult opera, has freely but respectfully approached the original songs by following his own playful wit, informed by the musical traditions, genres, styles and encounters that have shaped what is considered his very own idiom. For his version of Jesus Christ Superstar Bollani wanted a warm, mellow, profound, dense and clear piano sound. Hence the piano tuned at 432 Hz, which has allowed him to express the warmth and profundity of Lloyd Webber & Rice’s strong round film characters.

Stefano Bollani began studying the piano at the age of six and started his professional career at the age of fifteen. After graduating from the Conservatory Luigi Cherubini in Florence in 1993 he began appearing in many of the world’s most important concert venues. Currently he has published 43 albums alone (29 studio) and has collaborated extensively with other artists. Japanese label Venus Records released four albums by the “Stefano Bollani Trio” formed with Ares Tavolazzi on contrabass and Walter Paoli on drums. On Falando De Amor he's trio performed the music Of Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Lui ha deciso di raggruppare un gruppo di musicisti con i quali ha lavorato negli ultimi anni (sotto il nome "I visionari"), gruppo che comprende anche Ferruccio Spinetti che abitualmente registra e recita in duo con la moglie di Stefano Bollani, Petra Magoni.
