This is the second (and final) bootleg-gone-legit box that was actually sanctioned by Frank Zappa. But rather than go to the expense and time to use better sources – which the artist presumably had access to – he simply ripped off the illicit recordings that had been doing the same to him for decades. And voila, Beat the Boots was born. Zappa enlisted Rhino Records to manufacture and distribute the anthologies – which were packaged to appear as if the contents were being sold in a low budget cardboard box. However once inside Beat the Boots!, Vol. 2 (1992), consumers were treated to a full LP jacket-sized 40-page memorabilia scrapbook, a black felt beret and a red pin/badge bearing the hammer-in-fist artwork emblazoned on it.

After playing live together since 2008, Sasha Dobson, Norah Jones and Catherine Popper have at last taken their collaboration into the studio. No Fools, No Fun with the release of their debut album on Blue Note Records. The trio, known as Puss n Boots after flirtations with such monikers as Fangbanger, Dixie Fried and Shitstorm, recorded the album at Studio G in Brooklyn with engineer/mixer Joel Hamilton. 'No Fools, No Fun' includes five original songs two each from Dobson and Popper and one from Jones and seven spirited cover tunes, all culled from Puss n Boots live repertoire. The 12-song collection takes its name from the lyrics of 'Bull Rider,' a Rodney Crowell song made famous by Johnny Cash. 'Bull Rider' is one of three album tracks that Puss n Boots recorded live in June of 2013 at The Bell House. Over the years, they have also performed at the Bridge School Benefit, played stadiums with the Beastie Boys on the 'Get Out The Vote' tour and joined Wilco onstage at Madison Square Garden, singing background vocals on 'Jesus, Etc.', a song that Puss n Boots interprets on 'No Fools, No Fun'.

Alt-country trio Puss N Boots was formed by superstar Norah Jones with jazz singer Sasha Dobson and session musician Catherine Popper in 2008; it took them six years to get around to making this debut. Recorded in Brooklyn, "No Fools, No Fun" includes five original songs, two each from Dobson and Popper and one from Jones who plays guitar here, not piano. There are also seven spirited cover tunes, all culled from the trio's live repertoire. The studio tracks were recorded in three days while three live songs come from a performance in June 2013 at a small club in Brooklyn called The Bell House.

Homer Louis "Boots" Randolph III was an American musician best known for his 1963 saxophone hit "Yakety Sax". Randolph was a major part of the "Nashville sound" for most of his professional career. A transitional album, "The Fantastic Boots Randolph" is the first Randolph album cobbled together from sessions over a substantial period of time. The liner notes boast of the album being two years in the making, which, by Sixties standards (especially Nashville 60s standards), was a lifetime. In reality, the album is essentially a singles compilation: the swaggering "Windy and Warm", one of the best tracks here dates from 1963; seven of the other tracks had appeared on singles between 1964 and mid-1966.

"From The Forgotten Rooms Of A Lonely House" is a limited edition album of only 400 copies, offered as a free gift to visitors of the concerts held on December 30, 2011 and January 8th, 2012. The first three tracks on this album are live-pieces by the quartet MorPheuSz (Eric, Frank, Harold and Ron).
Compared too the mellow "Garden Gomblins…" album, the band here plays more dynamic and melodic/progessive music, including glowing versions of "Another Timeroom" and "Da Capo".
The other four tracks are solo creations by Ron Boots created in his own studio, kicking off with the beautiful, slightly dark space music of "Lost Stars"…
