in 1974, the Eagles released their third studio album, an LP that earned them their first - but certainly not their last - hit single.
Produced by Glynn Johns ("You Never Cry Like a Lover" and "Best of My Love") and Bill Szymczyk (everything else) during sessions at Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles and Olympic Studios in London, ON THE BORDER was the first Eagles album with guitarist Don Felder in the lineup, but it could have been a very different album if the guys in the band hadn't tired of Johns' efforts to play country in their rock. Johns' argument was, "The Who is a rock and roll band, and you're not," and you can imagine how well that went over. After working with Johns in London for six weeks, the Eagles returned to L.A., where they teamed up with Szymczyk, and it was during those sessions that Felder joined the band. Admittedly, he joined rather late, so he can only be heard on two tracks - "Good Day in Hell" and "Already Gone" - but it was enough to make a name for himself and be officially accepted into the band.

On The Border, the two-time certified Platinum album, features the band transitioning into a harder-rock sound. Reaching the Top Twenty on the Billboard charts, the album features the arrival of Don Felder. On The Border includes the band’s first chart-topping hit “The Best Of My Love.” Also included are the hit singles “Already Gone” and “James Dean.” Absolutely essential.

August 9, 2011 The New Mastersounds will release their first ever US recorded album, ''Breaks From The Border''. ''Breaks'' marks a new era in the band's sonic landscape by topping their unique syncopated grooves with group vocal stylings. Their new sound has been band tested, fan approved. After a major US festival tour, instead of flying home to England, they diverted to Texas, where they recorded at Sonic Ranch. Sonic Ranch is a residential studio in the middle of a huge pecan orchard, which became the setting for the band s seventh studio album, ''Breaks from the Border''

The Eagles began recording their third album in England with producer Glyn Johns, as they had their first two albums, but abandoned the sessions after completing two acceptable tracks. Johns, it is said, tended to emphasize the group's country elements and its harmonies, while the band, in particular Glenn Frey and Don Henley, wanted to take more of a hard rock direction…

Reinón, a saxophonist and bandleader from Barcelona, was smart enough to hook up in the late '90s with the overlooked pianist Valdes and include him in two projects, the Latin Jazz Octet and the Latin Big Band. The big band, like the octet, is a work of joy; Valdes composed a suite that lasts nearly an hour, and it's exceptional. It swings, lightly. The band, rehearsed, articulates the arrangements perfectly. Four of the pieces last over ten minutes, the montunos motoring with all the cool of a 12-cylinder engine.

History

After Hendrix disbanded the Jimi Hendrix Experience in mid-1969, he formed Gypsy Sun and Rainbows to fulfill the contract for the Experience to play Woodstock. Bassist Billy Cox (who had played with Hendrix while they were in the army) had been rehearsing and playing with Hendrix since April, but the band was short-lived. With Cox and his drummer friend Buddy Miles, Hendrix next formed the Band of Gypsys, this time to fulfill his obligation to produce an LP of new material for Ed Chalpin, to be released on the Capitol label. Hendrix, in interviews as early as March 1969, had already mentioned a "jam" album to be titled Band of Gypsys. Hendrix also mentioned in his introduction at Woodstock that "Band of Gypsys" was an alternative name for the group performing there.
