The Bionic Boy is basically a reworking of the US TV series The Six Million Dollar Man but with a nine year old martial arts champion in the title role (Johnson Yap). Plotwise, the film follows our hero on vacation in the Philippines with his family when a group of gangsters use a bulldozer to crush their car. Being the only survivor, Johnson is taken to hospital where a family friend pays for him to be given new bionic abilities. The film then follows him as he uses his newly developed abilities to take revenge on the gangsters.

As a solo artist and a collaborator, Andrew Gold defined a strand of mainstream pop during the late 1970s. His work with Linda Ronstadt – he led her band and arranged her blockbuster albums of the mid-'70s – catapulted him to a position where he was given the chance to score his own hits, which he did with 1977's "Lonely Boy" and 1978's "Thank You for Being a Friend," not to mention "Never Let Her Slip Away," which was a U.K. smash in '78. Gold stepped away from this solo career after 1980's Whirlwind, re-emerging in the late 1990s when he was acknowledged as the cult figure he is.

Classic 1977 London Sessions featuring Billy Boy Arnold w/ The Groundhogs. It happened during the autumn in London in 1977. Billy Boy was touring Europe and entrepreneur Peter Shertser came up with the idea that Billy Boy should record an album with The Groundhogs at Pathway Studios, North London. Billy Boy gelled immediately with the white boy's blues rock of The Groundhogs and jammed with the band until they were tight and ready to record the album. And what an album with Billy Boy's singing and harmonica and Tony S McPhee's slide technique and outstanding licks. As one reviewer said back in1979 "Briefly and simply, this album contains some of the best blues of the 70's and some of Billy Boy Arnold's best music ever."

You wanna hear a band about to explode? In June 1977, Cheap Trick was in Los Angeles to record their second album, In Color. To get the band in shape for the record, they booked 5 gigs at the Whisky a Go Go the weekend of June 3. The result: a series of fire-breathing shows that you can still hear reverberating on the Sunset Strip to this day. KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer introduced the band at the shows, and his memories are clear: ““The Whisky was packed for every show. A lot of girls showed up. It was like the ‘new’ Beatles had arrived.” Indeed, this concert stand takes its place alongside The Doors in 1966, Led Zeppelin in 1969, and Van Halen in 1977 as among the most notorious shows hosted by the venerable venue. As drummer Bun E. Carlos puts it, “The Whisky shows capture a hungry band. It's right before we went on tour with KISS and became much more famous than we were at this point. It was two nights where we did all our cool stuff from our first couple of records and it's chock-full of goodies.”

Toronto has long played a sizable role in the myth-making of The Rolling Stones. It’s been a home away from home for the group for decades, a place where they’ve set up shop to prep before hitting the road since at least as far back as 1989’s Steel Wheels tour. And during those months-long rehearsal stays, they’ve regularly held secret shows around town at small venues, such as the Horseshoe Tavern, RPM, and The Phoenix Concert Theatre. But the Stones’ Toronto club stint that started it all was a pair of shows at Spadina Avenue’s El Mocambo Tavern that took place March 4-5, 1977.
